Cam

Before I go all out on my engine I'm thinking about buying a cam (and supporting valvetrain of course). Any suggestions on a good cam that'll be good for a car that get's driven often without losing my low end, midrange, or having huge power surges (no topend monsters)?

Sorry but I'm a newbie to cams. While I understand lift, duration, etc... by looking at the number's I can't really see how it's going to feel once it's installed.

yea call a company or look online at what others are using. if you call isky, or prolly a lot of other places like lunati or comp like arch said, they will have tech people and i know isky has a guy that figures everythign out, you tel him every spec of your car and he will tell u exactly how big or wild you should go for your application and Isky can make you a custom cam, or he will tell you of the closest production one of another company.

I've been talking to Phil at Finish Line Performance today. He's a great guy answering all my questions and everything. If I end up paying someone to install the cam it'll definitly be him.

BTW here's his website:

Oh and the SLP cam is a piece of **** - don't buy that.

I have a 224/228 comp xtreme rpm. If you want a lobe that isn't real high go with one of those models. If you don't give a **** then get a XE-R or RPM high lift... I like mine though

if you plan on getting heads/different intake down the road id just wait it out. Cuz you really gotta match everything up to be happy.

x2-

If you get too big of a cam then your computer won't like and you won't get the maximum performance out if that you could with other upgrades. Since swapping a cam isn't the easiest thing in the world, I would hold off until you know more of what you are going to go with.

When I bought mine I knew I was going to either be running boost or juice, so thats the type of cam I got. And so far the parts seem to goin together pretty good. Just need to iron out a few wrinkles...

I went with a comp cams valvetrain on my car. 918 springs with titanium retainers and the 7.4 rushrods. The cam I went with is really mild, and now I am thinking about going a little bigger. I definatly recommend Thunder Racing, as they have some really nice cams. http://www.thunderracing.com
