yeah they made that, they have done those for years, and have actually been fined in the past for false advertising (if you notice they never use the same type or grade of oil in both cars now they have to say that)

BTW, it's back on the Gm list.
I went from M1 to RP to Castrol Syntec European Formula (made in Germany - not US brand) 0W-30 in my 2000 TA.
Won't be switching away anytime soon regardless of what GM says. I like the increased oil pressure after hot and the valvetrain quieted down noticeably over the other brands I used.
With my 230/230/ .612/.604 XFI lobe cam, and the springs good to .650 lift - the 'sewing machine' noise was out of control using the other oils.
Besides that, if it's good enough for MB and BMW, it's sure good enough for my LS1...
