cat and exhaust

Hey guys, I just have a couple questions/concerns about a project that I wanted to pursue. I have been trying to sell my hi-flow cat for a couple months without success, so i was thinking about putting to use on my car. Right now the only thing I have done with my exaust is get a new muffler that splits into dual. The stock cat is 3" in and 2 1/4" out.. the cat that I want to put in is 3" in and 2 1/2" out. I bought an adapter that goes from 2 1/2" to 2 1/4" so that it would fit. Im just wondering am I going to have to program my pcm, or do anything other than switch out the cats. And does anything think this is a worthless attempt? I just want some opinions on what you guys would do, I'm planning on doing it on friday, but just let me know some things i should be concerned about, or any other information I should know. Thanks guys

I put a high flow cat along with headers and a catback all at once on my old 3.4 and I didn't have to do anything and I didn't throw any codes.

I would like to eventually get a whole new exhaust when i get the money (moving away for college in a month) im going to go with magnaflow, but I was just thinking of putting the new cat on for now... I dont like the idea of keeping the 2.25" piping, but if i were to switch it, I might as well get the new exhaust...

I agree, I went with a 3" catback so the exhaust had no problem getting out.

Thats what I plan on getting.. 3" magnaflow, is that what you got? If so, Id be interested in hearing your opinion on magnaflow

Did you notice any low end torque loss with the 3" pipes on the V6? I've heard that the lower the back pressure, the higher in the RPM range the max torque is.

Every says that but if I did lose anything it was such a small amount you couldn't even tell. I definitly felt a difference on the top end though. Car pulled quite a bit harder at WOT.

if you went 3inch all teh way you may notice it, but on a cat back it won't make much difference

It was the catback and the cat itself. I couldn't go 3" any further than that.

yeah doing a 3in from heads out is where the real change would be, your system is only as good as the biggest restriction

How would I have 3" from the head's out. I've never heard of 3" headers.

So you think that I should switch the cats?

custom, mass produced headers are garbage (find 2 that are identicle in the first place)

Well, I was planning on doing this today, but now my dad doesnt think I should. He thinks that there is no reason to put it on, and I'm just wasting my time. I don't see what the problem is, I mean sure it will be time consuming, but it will increase flow, and maybe even give it a little better sound. I dont know, maybe I am wasting my time. Let me know what you think.
