Clutch question...

I know my trans has a hydraulic slave cylinder...thats it. i dont know much else. But when I have the clutch pedal down the engine and trans are smooth, no noises. But when i release the pedal (with the shifter in neutral) it sounds almost like a rod knock and it all vibrates.

I'm thinking its a bearing of some sort...a throw out bearing or release bearing...anyone got any idea or could it be either of those?

does it go away at all? what about when ur in gear?

NoRiceInside 10-27-2005 03:42 AM

when the clutch is mated to the flywheel it makes noise. when i disengage it, the noise goes away.

so there is no noise when its under load? i had a similar thing but mine was only when the engine was under load, like i was in too high a gear and would try to accelerate, or right when i started from a dead stop it would vibrate and then stop. mine did it and its a very common hting on LT1s. i wouldnt worry about it if i was you. everyone knows what it is but has no reasoningto why it does that.

youre a dork...any manual tranny will cause the car to vibrate if in a high gear trying to accelerate...

could be the flywheel is slightly warped.Really anything on the surface of the clutch even could cause that (just a piece of junk that somehow got in there)

oh...well mine does that when you smash the gas in 6th going like 40 mph...

chriskaz 10-30-2005 02:19 PM

well before u go out buyin a throwout bearing id just check to see if anything metal from the tranny is touching something. might have that kinda effect but i honestly dont really know man.

and while your in there check everything out real good

NoRiceInside 10-31-2005 12:15 AM

well someone help me out a bit...the clutch and pressure plate are bolted to the flywheel and the throwout bearing is on the input shaft inside the bellhousing of the tranny right?

archemedes 10-31-2005 10:39 AM

right
