Today I was just looking over my car for the trip, and I noticed before, but the coolant seriously looks like ****. Is it supposed to look like this? I know its the orange dextol stuff or whatever, but its like gunky, and goopy... doenst look like coolant to me. What is that orange coolant really supposed to look like?

well old coolant generally just smells burnt or appears burnt. the fact that its goopy isnt too good. you got oil in it somehow. you bought it used so it may never have been changed in the first place. if the cars not overheating, you dont have to rush but eventually id change it. just flush it out, put new stuff in and check it after 500 miles

Mine's the same, I just think that it's buildup af all the crap that the coolant has picked up over the years and since I'm going to assume most garages are too lazy to clean that resevior it just stays like that. But if there is oil in it I'm pretty sure you're screwed.

well most likely if it smells weird it needs changed and it gets like that from all the stuff in your coolent system such as rust plus when your car gets really hot it will boil and that leaves junk too so must likely it hasnt been changed in a long time
