Coolant leak

I kinda posted about this before, but a little ovr a month ago, the day before I left for CSF, I just happend to check my antifreeze, and thats when I asked about it being all cruddy looking, but it was also super low... I hadnt even had any problems or anything I just saw that it was barely on the dipstick thing... Anyway, I put about half a thing of 50/50 in the next day when we left, and it seemed fine.

A couple weeks ago I noticed there was **** all over my engine bay, I thought it was an oil leak at first, but now I think its coolant. I cant tell where its coming from, but the first time I looked at it, it was all over the crank pulley and the belt threw it around in all directions. But now I think it might be dripping from above onto the crank and getting thrown everywhere...

I just took more caution into it this past week and now Im noticing little coolant puddles everywhere I go and park. I think its getting worse, but I cant really tell for sure since I havent really been paying attention until the past couple days... Its not overheating unless Im sitting in traffic for a few minutes. When I say overheat, I mean higher than where the needle usually sits 95% of the time, which is about 185*... its not getting higher than 210 though... I turn on my defroster to help, and it goes back down.

My dad thinks its the water pump going, and now my gfs dad said the same. Jw if there are any for sure signs of what could be going on... Im going to try to get underneath it tomorrow, becuase all Ive been looking from is with the hood up, but it looks like its around the water pump area. What do you guys think?

This is super ******* gay because its my only car, my dd, and I live a state away from my parents... Im short on money, and Im also getting ready to take a 6 hour trip to South Dakota next weekend, and I already have to fix my rotors and pads sometime this week. I love how all this **** happens when I actually need my car. Everything HAS to happen at the same time... Lovely.

Waiting for help, and trying not to snap.

could be a water pump(noisy gear...low noise on engine bay)..mine go out but i got no coolant loss...i just change my tensioner, and being so close to the water pump i notice two plastic elbow..one is very visible(black)connected from the tensioner assembly to water pump and the other one is hidden..run ur finger to the highest pt of the water pump right below the throttle body its connected from the tensioner assembly to the engine...i put my new tensioner without replacing those and it did the same thing...coolant everywhere ....i changed mine cost abt 20 a piece and that take care of it....chk ur water pump and then check for that 2 plastic elbow.......i spent one hour figuring out where thst leak is coming from.......all done now..good as new....goodluck....

okay this sounds very familiar to my last summer. Okay i had a coolant leak and between a mechanic and my gf's dad we replaced the following.

Thermosdat (however you spell that) twice
All hoses
Flushed the system
changed the intake and valve cover gaskets
and then a gasket on the front side of the engine that the mechanic had to lift my engine almost out of the car to replace it

So yeah after all that **** and about 700 dollars to that mechanic it's fixed so i guess kinda check that stuff and if not that then i dunno
did all i could

I had a coolant leak a few years ago and the mechanic said it was coming from my block heater. Then my heater hose blew off a couple days laterand got antifreeze all over the place. So, there's 2 more things to check.

i'd say check ur hoses first especially around the clamp..then check to see if ur pump while the car is running to see if it leaking.Autozone got this UV light kit that you can use to find coolant leaks..it could help.

Thanks for the help for those who replied... I actually went in there today, and ended up changing my water pump, lower rad hose, and the one elbow into the lower intake. So far so good, no probs.

For anyone who searches this thread, heres a link to where I got help from.

My 3.4L was leaking fluid and i ended up changing the pump and it was still leaking. My best advice to you is check the following:

All the hoses that have coolant that runs through them, sometimes these crack leaving a fluid leak. Check near the necks where they connect to something, you might find a small crack. Check under the hoses too... the bottoms crack. Where your eyes cant see run your finger around and feel for a crack.

If it's a leak when the motor is running i've found most of the leaks come from pressure build up. Pop the hood and look around, check for broken gaskets or seals... you can see little orange bubbles in a crack and coolant is bubbling out it's a bad gasket or seal. check the thermostat housing (under you intake elbow) look for wet spots. Sometimes the RV sealant blows off and makes a coolant leak. Just open the housing change your thermo and reapply some RV temp sealant. "Look for orange bubbles and wet spots"

M-fer paar i just looked up to see who replied and saw you already took it to a shop... o well to lasy to delete this. Someone will use my info lol...

Mine was leaking last weekend. Checked weep hole on water pump and it was fine. The leak was from the timing chain cover gasket. 7 hours later, new water pump and new gaskets, no leak.

It could also be your intake gasket. The most common problems are the intake gasket and water pump, but if you check the weep hole and it isn't leaking, its probably not the water pump itself.

I think it might have been a combination of the water pump and somthing else. It hasnt been leaving puddles or leaking that I can tell, but I can see a little residue, just a little bit near the intake gasket. Not enough to make me spend money on it right now though.
