Crazy noise
Ok im in first gear stopped. When the light turns green i let off the clutch (normal speed, not racing) well if i let it out alot you can hear a big grinding sound. It doesnt do it all the time just sometimes. There is no noise in any of the other gears.
Have you ever been stopped and just let out the clutch with no gas to see how far it would go before you stall. Well thats when i makes alot of noise.
Do you think i need a new tranny or clutch? Its a 95 Z28 camaro with 114,800 miles on it. Pretty much all stock. AT sometime ill be taking the Engine out and redoing everything. Hopefully for around 400HP. Knowing that, if it is the clutch what one should i get? Im not sure when ill be changing the engine. Soon i hope.
Is it still ok to drive the car around or do you think it just might take a **** on me soon?

If it is making sounds, I'd think it is the gears... But if you're redoing everything anyway, you'll need a new clutch to handle the new found power. So maybe go ahead and get some high performance clutch that can handle a bunch of power, and see if it helps I guess. I don't have much experience with manual cars so wait for a second opinion.

I don't think it would make a noise if it had low fluid, but it's been over a year since I've paid any attention to a manual transmission. And if it were low fluid, it would probably affect more than just first gear.

If you are hearing the noise in first and only when you are releasing the clutch I would say thaat it is more then likely a clutch related issue...Do you hear the sound when the clutch is fully released and accelerating? If not it could be that the clucth has enough wear on it that one or more of the metal rivots are coming in contact with the pressure plate or flywheel.....or it could be the release bearing....Either way I would say to try to find the problem before you continue to drive it, as to not tear something else up...If you are planning on building the motor up anyways I would go with an aftermarket clutch such as Spec 3 or 3+, Ram HD, or MeCloud twin disc....That depends on your budget and what you intend to do with the car..(drag race, street) Hope this helps you....

Thanks for the help guys. I brought it to a shop and we took the tranny out and found that 3,5,6 gears are all pretty much done. The release bearing was done and something about a synkanizer (yea i didnt spell that right).
So im getting a rebuilt tranny and a spec stage 2+ clutch.
hope that helps
