decoding pcm code?

does anyone know how you would tell what year and engine an ecu came from by the code thats on it? my code is as follows 16145581. I want to have a chip burnt for my ecu to make it perform better.

I would think if you got the P# of the unit itself you could call your local GM dealer give them the P# they can tell you what it was used in.
