Engine Cleaning

Well, IM tired of going out to shows with a startin to come dirty engine. Whats the best way to wash the engine area to make it clean? I know there are some things that shouldnt get etc....Would using a sprayer on REALLY low not harm the engine if i go quick at it?

well, if you get most of just the dust and dirt off of it, you can then just spray down all the black wires and **** with some WD-40, and just wipe some WD-40 on the wheel well area, lower air box, headlight fixtures, etc. WD-40 doesn't necessarily(sp) clean, it shines once most of the dirt is gone. I'd just try to wipe the dirt off first, if that doesn't work, whip out some Simple green, spray it on a rag, and wipe down whatever with it, then go back with WD-40 to shine it up!

my engine bay with about 20 minutes of work, although it wasn't that dirty to begin with.

I use degreaser myself at home. Spray it on...rinse it off. Works wonders. I wouldn't want WD-40 on my engine though. It doesn't need to be lubed. Just grab some Meguirs Plastic Shine on the parts you want shiny. Not all sticky when you are done either. Or some Armor All. Both are cheap.

If I'm mistaken engine degreaser can only be used on the actual engine right? Like it cannot be sprayed on the air box and stuff?

it can be sprayed on anything you want to avoid getting it on the body but it won't hurt anything except strip any wax

Cool, I was looking at some engine brite, they make one type for older engines and one for newer engines. You wouldn't happen to know the difference?

what i do for anything BUT LT1 camaros (OPTI!!!!) is spray the entire engine bay down with dilluted simple green and let it soak for a minute or two, then i hit it with a weak electric powerwasher and that gets the majority of the grime off. The rest i will manually clean using simple green and armor all... or just armor all depending on how clean that got the various things.
