Exhaust ?

Aight so heres the deal i heard that there are long pipe headers that are streat leagale for the lt1 camaros. What i want is a full exaust from long headers (if posible) to a high flow cat to a cut out (electronic or manual as long as it can be done from inside the car) and keep 3" pipes with a mufler that has good sound that splits the exaust out both sides like stock exhaust. On top of that i want it to be emisions ready. I know its a lot but i wounder if they make a kit like that or if anyone could give me a list of the products i would need to pull it off and keep it emisons ready. i know dynomax makes some of it but i dont know what all they got and there web site confuses me lol Thanks for all yalls help.

Maybe check out ebay because they have cheaper prices on cutouts i think, but I never really heard any response from people here who got them from there. As for the other places, you will get answers from people here as soon as they see the post

do long tubes, a y pipe, factory cat, then a loud mouth or any other catback system. most aftermarket systems will do what you want, but youll need to buy the headers, y pipe and cat back all seperatly, and maybe you can get an exhaust shop to make anything that might need to be custom made, like a y pipe to go from long tubes to the stock cat size.

still curious ok so get a set of long headers that are emisons leagal and a cat back system. What about the cat i know they got high flow emisions cats are they worth it if your redoing everything anyway? Will i need a custom built y pipe to go to a new cat or will it all bolt up? Last say i get headers all the way to tips done and installed myself will a exaust shop install in a cutout if i bring one it to them? Or will i have to have them fab a pipe for me and do it myself? Thanks for everyones help.

JesasaurusRex 10-16-2005 12:09 AM

oh if ur gonna do the cut out, do it before the cat please :banghead:

archemedes 10-16-2005 12:31 AM

I doubt if a shop will do a cutout since they are illegal, but you may find a shop that will do it

97' Z28 show project 10-16-2005 02:37 AM

so then a regular y pipe would work cause it would go to the cut out then the cut out to the cat and the only pipe i would need fabed is from the cat to the muffler right. And as long as they dont do a visual cheak on the emisons as long as the components are leagal it should pass right

archemedes 10-16-2005 04:00 AM

as long as no visual (if they have emmissions they do a visual)remember also cutouts don't help power they just sound redneck (no exhaust on a street car is redneck)

97' Z28 show project 10-16-2005 05:42 AM

they never did a visual on my car that i noticed when i have gotten emisions done but that doesnt say they didnt do it i just never saw them. Yea i know its the sound thing just for the fun of it but it sounds like it might end up being more of a pain then its worth to put one on.

you guys are sorta confused...youre talking of this as its a simple swap of the factory stuff...when you do long tubes you get into the custom exhaust area...

get the pacesetter long tubes, they have emissions hook ups. then get their y-pipe, its made for their headers. this y-pipe goes behind the trans, sorta like the LS1s, so then you'd need an LS1 catback and you'd have to have the cat installed in the i-pipe of that catback.

it's the cutout that is the issue nothing else

NoRiceInside 10-16-2005 10:10 PM

oh...well ****...cut-out after the y-pipe, then that goes into the cat, then theres the end of the i-pipe, lol.

69z-28 10-16-2005 10:34 PM

Caleb i just realized what do you do for emmisions. you dont have any smog stuff and your car is OBD1.lol explain please...:D

NoRiceInside 10-16-2005 11:29 PM

whatchu talkin bout? you talkin about my sig "!EGR"? well the last guy who owned it musta bootlegged the smog cuz when i was tearin it apart last week i noticed he had a big *** bolt shoved into the EGR pipe in the back of the manifold. these headers dont have the provision.

i guess i'll have to get me some pacesetter LTs before my next smog in 07 :D

69z-28 10-16-2005 11:36 PM

well if you dont have an EGR valve or any of the provisions on the headers you wont pass. well you probably would without a visual inspection but in Cali they are crazy about smog.

NoRiceInside 10-17-2005 12:57 AM

are you trying to sound smart? cuz i know i wont pass smog. i thought that was obvious...

97' Z28 show project 10-17-2005 06:31 AM

so with the pacesetters long headers and y pipe i can bolt up a highflow cat and a ls1 cat back and still be street leagle forgeting about the cut out am i getting that much right or am i still missing a custom pipe that would need to be fabed or something

97' Z28 show project 10-17-2005 06:31 AM

oh and thanks for the help guys

NoRiceInside 10-17-2005 11:26 AM

well you would need to put the cat in the catback. you'd have to cut about 18 inches (or however long your cat is) off the catback to get the cat to fit

97' Z28 show project 10-17-2005 12:44 PM

would a shop cut it or would they try and say it wasnt a leagal exahust?

archemedes 10-17-2005 10:41 PM

they would put the cat in (as long as they see it's an emmissions legal cat, not all are)

97' Z28 show project 10-18-2005 12:48 AM

sounds good but when i looked for a emissions leagal long headers from pacesetters last night all i got were mid length headers im going to look again but if someone knows were i can get the long ones let me know please.

Sinister95Z 10-18-2005 04:17 AM

Here you go....and they happen to be on sale: http://www.texas-speed.com/item_deta...ProductID=1342

97' Z28 show project 10-18-2005 05:26 AM

nice thanks

97' Z28 show project 10-18-2005 05:33 AM

The only y pipe they got on there is the off road one is that the one i need and just get a cat put in after it to make it street leagal?

that doesnt seem right...it says for 96-97 (dual cat models) but with long tubes you replace the cats, so it shouldnt matter...those might be the shorties...lemme check the P/Ns...

NoRiceInside 10-19-2005 01:29 AM

hmm no part numbers from TSP...but the prices seem to be the same (besides the sale)

97' Z28 show project 10-19-2005 01:54 AM

Hey still same question do i need that off road y pipe and then put a cat in it or is there another y pipe to get?

archemedes 10-19-2005 02:22 AM

off road pipe can be cut for the cats, I think the factory style (which has a restriction in it) has provisions for the cat
