Exhaust?

Hi all,
I just bought a 1999 Camaro coupe, so far I am very pleased with it, except one thing, its just to quiet! Its not a Z28 so I'm not sure how good I can make this thing sound but I'd really like to try. I want it loud but not to the point were I wake the neighbors up when I leave for school at 530 in the morning. What I want is somthing deep sounding, like the sound clip on flowmasters site for the 80 series crossflow, but I dont want it to sound like a god damn rice car. I seen in the video section someone had the flowmaster 80 on there 3.4 and when It got higher into the rpm's it got all "not american muscle" sounding, I wouldnt know if the 3.8 would make a difference or not, but I was just looking for some imput on where to go with this.

Sorry for the long post, and I will get pictures up later today or tomarow.

On a V8 yeah, but on a V6 they get that higher pitched 'tin' sound at upper RPM's.

Flowmaster sounds like crap on just about anything IMO..V8 or V6. I would stay away from them for sure, esp if you are not wanting to have the higher pitched tone.

If you want something that sounds good but is not too loud, then I would suggest either Magnaflow or Borla. Either one sounds really good on a V6.

What model am I looking for in the magnaflow or borla, and do they get the gay sound in the upper rpm's?

Thanks for the quick replys guys!

I've got the Magnaflow cat back on my car, it's got the 3.8 too. It sounds really good, not to loud but fairly deep for a V6. It does start to sound a little bit like an import after about 3500 rpm, but that is what all V6's will sound like it doesn't matter what exhaust you get. As for what series, as far as I know they only have the one type for the V6.

You will never get rid of v6 rasp unless you heavily mod. Understand that.

Thanks for all of the info guys, 96camaro, could you posibly get a sound or video clip for me?

I would just like to complement you all, this is the most helpful and fastest responding forum I have ever seen!

I tried to link some pictures but, it said I couldnt until I got 15 posts, so I guess those will have to wait a day or 2.

Ill have a clip for you in a week. Im putting Pacesetter headers, 3" carsound cat, and 3" magnaflow catback on my 3.8 this weekend.

FamousZ 03-26-2006 09:01 PM

Id get a clip, but I dont have a video camera so it doesnt work right.. But I have a magnaflow and I really like the sound of it..

96camaro 03-27-2006 10:41 AM

Sorry man, I can't get a sound clip. My car is frozen under a car cover at the moment, plus I don't have anything to record it with anyway. Check out the magnaflow website, I know they have soundclips, can't remember if it was from a V8 though.

paar cant wait to hear what ure car sounds like.

sman 03-27-2006 11:54 AM

Yea, the magnaflow website has soundclips or the z28, kinda sucks, same clips for all of there camaro systems.

Had a Magnaflow on a 96 3.8. Sounded good. Any good muffler shop can fix you up. I ran mine out the middle with an SLP lower valance (2 piece). It was kinda trick! I posted a picture a while back. Do a search. SLP Center exit. Its a white 96 RS.
