well russ from WCFB says yes they are, but his car has aluminum heads and headers...so his isnt too bad. my car has a cam and ported heads, so mine wouldnt be too bad...but on a stock 3.4...dont do it.

it all depends on how you like your exhaust. Some people just find the cut outs too much.

just make sure and do teh mechanical type (preferably cable operated) that way you can close them from inside, the electric ones seem to be unreliable (I have read exactly one good review of them)

i drove my old 3.8L around for about an hour when i had it with the exhaust off from the cat, so its pretty much the same thing and it was too loud, it was really ricey at high rpms it was like a peircing noise to your ears, it did sound awsome at idle and until about 3,000rpm thats when it just turned to annoying. Id do it, but like arch said go with the cable one, i plan on puttin a cut out on my ls1 once i get my headers and y pipe.

I have only seen a 2" cutout with the cable at jegs but that's to small i think that the only size they have. Does anyone know where i can find a larger size?

how big do you want? You can just use an adapter, unless you want to be crawling under your car and praying the cop is in a good mood

I had always thought it was 2 ½ but when I took it to the muffler shop to do the Fake Cat. Converter the guys there measure it and they toll me it was 3 in. The previous Owner had added it the Flowmaster and the 3 in. exhaust before I purchase it from him.

yeah its only 2.5". but dont get one thats 2", that would be a huge restriction in the exhaust.

i had no muffler on my stock 3.4 for a while and it was great, the i put a flowmaster on. i think that i am going to hollow out the muffler sometime in the future.

wrong! heheh. sorry caleb

anyway. my exhaust note HAS NOT CHANGED from when i was running a completely stock 3.4L engine -> the headers. the only thing that changed a little was the "deepness" of the exhaust note. even when i had a cat+stock piping + my 3" catback the car sounded the same as it does now

here is how a 3.4L with a cutout sounds: (stock or headers w/stock cam)

(you need quicktime to view)

a cutout is soooooooooo worth it. makes the car sound mean :-D
