ok... got the bolts (cost me 12 bucks at napa) started taking everything apart.. went to take out the old donut.. and nothing.. it was gone.. so now im assuming its in the cat clogging it up probably. other then that the car is running great now, gave it a tune-up also.. new plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor, oil change.. shes lovin it. about the cat tho.. im thinking of just taking it to an exhaust place and getting them to put a piece of pipe in there and leave the cat out since the cat is just bolted in there. this can't/ won't be to expensive will it?

if they'll do it it's illegal for them to (they cvan be fined/shut down for it)chances of the gasket going into the converter are minimal unless it was on absolutly wrong there is a flange to block that stuff

yup.. you were right about the springs.. had a hell of a time trying to get it all together without an extra hand tho. ok about the cat thing. im thinking of just getting them to make me the piece. with the cat right now.. there is the cat and then about 10 inchs of pipe on either side one one side its a flange with a gasket, and the other end that connects to the y-pipe, the y-pipe is tapered down and the piece from the cat goes overtop of it. get it? well im going to see if they can just custom make me the same piece just without the cat and i will install it myself its fairly easy to do...
and.. i dont see where else the exhaust donut could have gone.. it couldnt have fell out the only other way is down the y-pipe into the cat. but i don't think it could have because it had a metal sleeve on it that was just under the thickness of the exhaust so it would slide in.. so im lost on where the donut went...

hey dcalado, we just did that on my car. The only thing u'd need to do it urself is a grind'r and a welding machine, also a tape measure to measure out the measurments of the pipe/with/length. If you have those two things and some common sense, its pretty easy. A lot of work, but easy. The only thing u would need the welding machine for is to weld on the flange to a piece of pipe after u cut it off of the cat w/ the grinder. That and u might need it depending on how long it is from one piece of pipe to the other after u take the cat off. Ours was like 21 sometin , or around that so thats y we had to weld ours. u can prob. get away w/ wht we did and just run down to autozone and they should selll the pipe. Its no specific pipe just somethin u'll find on the shelf. that and if it helps u might want to take the grinder to the cat. now theres also a braket piece that u might have to custom make if it breaks. Ours did for some reason but thats real easy. If u do go that way and need a pic on how to mke the bracket letme know. Its real easy.
I think back n the day, and i dont kno if they still do it ne more, but ppl would put a pipe straight through their cat, so if u got pulled over or had emissions checks then it would look stock.
Ours sounds a lot better now , so good luck w/ which ever way you go.

i think the only thing i would need the welder for is to weld a flange on the new pipe. i can take my old cat off in like 15-20min.. its on c-clamp closet to the y-pipe and and a flange on the other end( 2 bolts) and then alot of prying and pulling and it pops off. i did this a couple months ago when i took my whole exhaust out when i tryed to fit my headers in and i was going to go with a whole new exhaust, but i never got the headers in because they wouldnt fit, so im now assuming i need to take out the motor mounts and lift the engine a bit to get them in there.. but i was being kicked out of that shop and my out teacher didnt want my car in there anymore.
im having a thought now.. i may get a custom y-pipe biult so i can get my headers on there. but then there is the EGR. im thinking.. i would drill a hole in the headers where all the tubes connect to one.. and pipe some sort of steel hose up to the egr where it connect to the manifold before. what you guys think about this? it was just a random thought right now.. any ideas if it will work?
