Fastest 3rd gen in here?

I want to know who is the fastest 3rd gen here. I've got a stock suspension, no wheelie bars, stock bodied, true 10" tire car. I have gone 9.33 @ 148 to date and just want some more ideas to go faster without having to backhalf it. Current race weight is 3320 with me in it and I am trying to cut some more out of it and get it into the 8's.

Mike Jones 12-29-2005 11:20 PM

You're the fastest 3rd gen, the second fastest last run was a 11.12 with a 400 block.

1BAD86Z 12-30-2005 12:17 AM

You gotta be kiding me! What happened my fellow 3rd gener's? We need to keep our cars competitive with these LT1 and LS1 guys. LOL, I hope I didn't upset anyone. :nana: :nana:

ryann 12-30-2005 03:27 PM

niceroc 12-30-2005 04:33 PM

yeah not many thirdgen's here, let alone fast ones, i just dont have the money to paint, or make my car fast so now i have to stick with a 15 sec(14 sec if im lucky) 305 5 speed in mine

Motor is a 421ci with 14.5 to 1 comp., 1050 Dominator with NOS X 2 stage plate, Dart Pro one heads fully CNC'ed and a Edelbrok super victor semi ported, T350 with 4100 stall and trans brake, Ford 9" with 4.11 and 35 spline axles with a spool, stock suspension with aftermarket BMR solid arms, Competition Eng. torque arm, Hal 12 ways, front end has a PA X member with their A arms and coil overs and I run a Tokico 5 way strut, just until Hal makes something better, and a manual rack. 10 point cage but that will be upgraded to a 12 point and I also have to add a parachute mount cause I plan on opening up the second stage and go 8's this season.

Oh, heads are still a 23 degree head, no angle milling or raised runner design.

Here is an old pic of the current 421 without the NOS kit and manual brake master cyclinder and headers.

LOL, I based my build from a friend of a friend that built a RS with a 406. I have had mine for over 11 years and I'll probably be buried in it. Mine was a 305 TPI, 700R4, 2.73 one legger, and I bought this one cause I could eat off the bottom of it.

Thats ok, you don't have to look while going going fast! I build mine before I had paint so don't feel bad just stick with it. I never thought I would ever break into the 10's let alone low 9's.

ryann 12-30-2005 11:33 PM

just outta curiousty. how much did ya have to dump into that to get in the 9's?

Well the first motor that got me into the 9's was a 406, I had a $1100 rotating assembly, and some Dart iron eagles that were just touched by hand with a big shot set to 200 and it went 9.90's a few times that on a cold day she let a rod go at the stripe at 138 mph. I had about $4500.00 in that whole motor and I had the lower end put together by a shop. Before http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1.../camaro002.jpg

After the BOOM
Attachment 158574

The new combo is a whole new mill, I have about $8500.00 in the whole motor carb to pan. I put some really god parts in this one, I have Oliver billet rods with ARP 3.5 bolts, Howards extreme crank, Ross custom NOS pistons, stock block with billet caps in all 5 positions and the block is filled to the water pump with concrete. Basicly the motor is good for about 1200hp on NOS, the pistons are the week link and thats fine with me.

Sorry about the late reply but i have nothing on 1BAD86Z 3rd gen. Right now you can see all the mods i have below. I am having the rear end checked out next sunday to see what i can do with it. If anyone has any ideas on a new rear end, please let me know. Thanks.

MetalliCamaro 01-02-2006 07:17 PM

i am taking mine to the track in the summer of 2006 but as of right now Highest speed ive been at, The speedo reads up to 140mph i was at 145mph and wouldnt go passed it but it took longer than 20 seconds to get there for sure, but I will post up some time slips this summer, june i hope.

1BAD86Z 01-03-2006 01:54 AM

I'm putting a parachute on it cause I plan on going over 150 in the 1/4 this season.

Camarocam 01-03-2006 11:15 AM

Damn I feel like I have a honda compared to you guys:(

MetalliCamaro 01-04-2006 10:57 PM

Even with the 5.0L H.O.? Put a Decent Cam in it, and Spiff up the rear end and i think you'll be happier.

JesasaurusRex 01-04-2006 11:47 PM

I ran the 11.12 @ 129 , 412ci small block, 26" tall DOT tire, was pretty stock suspension, pump gas (91 octane out here) all motor, hair over 3000lbs. Should be good for a mid low 10 how she sits now, i got the mph to do it. N i can fill mine up at the local gas station :p , dope 3rd gen tho buddy

1BAD86Z 01-05-2006 01:46 AM

Are you getting the front end off the ground? your MPH is good for a 10.80 pass, I usually go 10.67 at 131mph.

JesasaurusRex 01-05-2006 03:44 AM

3000lb race weight with a 129.89 trap is good to a 10.4 ET , this was with under 10 degrees of initial timing and off the shelf carb and not power shifting, i think theres a few more MPH in her, say a 133 trap, should be good to a 10.25 ET on 91 octane. Nope front end didnt come up, like i said pretty much stock suspension (not type but actual pieces, I.E. OEM torque arm what not, couldnt do a burn out cuz of my manifold vac and tryin to use power brakes so couldnt hook) also no subframe connectors, all of which are fixed now just havent taken her back.

JesasaurusRex 01-05-2006 03:49 AM

curious why you didnt get an aftermarket block, on these 400s basically past a 3.8" stroke you need to fill the block with filler (which you did) meaning no cooling, guess it doesnt matter since it only runs on race gas anyways. heh, just not my cup of tea i guess, fast as **** dont get me wrong just think its fun if ya can take it down the strip once in a blue moon ya know. So if ya got an aftermarket block coulda still had the collant deal done and then just carried around some race gas n still cruised it. Curious on why ya didnt do that?

I actually only had the block filled to the water pump and believe it or not it runs no warmer than 180. I got too good of a deal on this 400 block, it has the lifter bores bushed with bronze inserts, billet caps in all 5 positions, the freeze plugs are taped and screw in plugs are in it, and it was ready for assembly it just needed to be honed for the rings. I bought if for $700.00 and thats alot less than a Motown block. I still run the stock Aluminum radiator and stock single electric fan also. But I do not run a thermostat, I run a restrictor plate with a 5/8 hole. I have driven it on the street and it doesn't have any problems, just a chopy Idle like a mofo!
