are those real hardcore? can someone actually explain what these do i dont really understand the concept also i want gears that will make me take off faster will this make me lose high rpm power?

I would say depending on how much highway you do, either 3.73's or 4.10's. You will get a little more noise from a steeper gear so keep that in mind as well.
Basically what gears do for you is get you off the line faster. After you are out of first it doesn't really do much for you. It won't take away any power, it just lets you get to the power sooner thats all.
I have 3.73's in my car now and I can say that there is a difference between the 3.42 and 3.73. I take the car on the highway once and a while and its nice to not be running a lot of RPM's but still have power to pass in 6th gear...

so what your saying 4.10's are more hardcore than 3.73's? what are the stock gears? would the 3.73's be good i mean this is my daily driver and i do take it on the highway like i said i drive to school, so would the 3.73's give me good take off power and still high rpm power? what do u mean when u said that about 6th gear rice killer i didnt understand what your trying to say

the gears are in the rear end. they transfer the spin of the driveshaft from front to back to side to side to spin the wheels. i think stock lt1s had 2.73. some had 3.23. basically thats a ratio. the gear from the driveshaft is a small pinion gear and the one on the differential that drives the wheels is a larger ring gear. if the pinion gear has 13 teeth and the ring gear has 42 teeth then the ratio is 3.23 to 1. by going to a higher number the ratio is lower, and the accleration is greater, however like chris said, what you gain in low end you lose in top end. the gears available are 2.73, 3.08, 3.23, 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10. 2.73 and 3.08 are 2-series and have a different differential than 3.23 and up, which are known as 3-series. so keep in mind, if you have 2.73 now and want to upgrade to 3.23 and higher you need to upgrade the diferential to a 3-series.

well i know that the teeth numbers are stamped onto the ring gear...but thats gotta remove the cover. i'm sure theres people on here who can tell you. i know some have 2.73 and some have 3.23 and i think which one depends on manual or auto.

What I meant was that with the stock gears in my car- 3.42's, 6th gear didn't really have a lot of 'power' on the highway. The car would move obviously, but wouldn't really accelerate all that well. But with the 3.73's it gets the rpm's up just enough that the car will have some acceleration but still keep the rpm's down fairly low.
Your car with have came stock with either 3.23's or 3.42's. Look at your door panel and see what the recommended tires are. If it calls for 'S' rated tires, then more than likely your have the 3.23's. If it calls for 'Z' rated, then you prolly have the 3.42's. Also checking your gauge cluster works, but those can be changed so easily that I wouldn't go by that solely. 120 speedo- 3.23's. 150- 3.42's.
Since you said you do some highway driving, I would lean more towards the 3.73's that way you still keep some highway mileage, but it also depends on how you drive. If you are always in the carpet than its not going to matter either way...

also how much top end power would i lose with 3.73's and like with 3.73's would i be in 6th gear like at 65mph and about what rpm if in 6th? just trying to get a feel for how these gears will change my shifting and rpms and stuff
