headers on an LT1....weird noises inside?

well in case you didnt already know, they are a PITA to do, and the bolts like to come loose when u dont use locking bolts. hehe

well i was getting annoyed for the last few days, when i had my windows up especially i could hear very audilbe ticking noises.i had one by like my pedals and kickpanel area it sounded like and one by passenger glovebox. of coarse im hitting everything trying to find rattles...

well today, i popped the hood and suprise! the back most drivers side header bolt is 1/2" out of the threads, and the 2nd to last passenger side bolt is gone.hehe. so anyways, got em all tightened up and the car is quiet as a mouse. well not really but no more header leaks.lol. just expressing my love for easy fixes, and hopefuully making everyone aware that you should check yours.

also, my y-pipe clamps were tightened by myself, a helluva lot more than what they were at. they werent loose but damn i still got a lot out of them. guess stuff loosens up with a solid mounted exhaust:banghead: lol.

the same thing happened when i put my headers on...i probably didn't tighten them enough or the fact that i had a wrench instead of a ratchet caused the bolts to come loose.

That is exactly why I am very happy that I used Breslin bolts when I installed my Longtubes. I have had them on for a couple months now and have checked all my header bolts about three times. Not a single bolt has come loose at all. And they are stainless.

Get the lockin header bolts and your problem should be fixed. I will warn some of you that LT1 heads are aluminum and can be stripped a lot easier than the old iron heads.

I recommend that when you do get new bolts, get the 1". They will go farther into the head and you are less likely to strip them out.

Get Pacesetter LT's. If you look at different post on this board as well as others, you will see how much better they fit. That and you can usually get them in a group purchase for about $360.

i got Hooker Longtubes from Tony(97z2801SS) or w/e his name is.lol. anyways, yes i got stage 8 locking header bolts from Speed INC and the *** gave me LS1 bolts so while im in the middle of the job i just got some autozone header bolts to finish up because i wasnt about to start hunting down the perfect ones when time was a bit of an issue. anyways, some of them are hard to get at, but obviously they are all possible. just takes time and patience. and some crafty tool work.lol

Yes. I got my Ceramic coated LT's from Speed Inc. for about $360. I bought both the LT's and the Y-Pipe for only a little over $500 shipped.

i heard the pacesetters were good, i love my hookers, only thing i dont like is how i had to smash the slip fit number 1 primary tube to fit, BUT it was the cars fault due to the LS1 rack that it has in it. other than that, when u get them up there and see the bends they take, you really idolize the engineers at Hooker.lol. i honestly started thinking, wow they really took a lot of time to make these suckers.lol.

NOOOOO. TD's are over rated and you will kick yourself when u start getting problems. buy the longtubes, the Y pipe then do a custom catback after that or run w/e aftermarket CB/ seriously TDs are... BLAH!lol im sorry but i think they are way overrated and often times people give up on them because of the ballbusting trouble the give you. just my 2 cents, of coarse do what u want, im just throwin out other ideas.

i got locking bolts, and I think im gonna still have to retighten them a little. Most of all I hate the EGR. its been such a pain in the *** ever since I put headers on. Ive tried just about every sealant on the EGR tube, and they all have failed. Next is welding maybe, but I can barely even reach all around it. f the egr!
