HELP me and my new LT1.
#16
You guys are helping a whole bunch thanks!
Today, I swapped my v6 rear end to the z28 posi rear end. Easy install... With power tools ( Air gun ) lol. ended up using a torque bar and wrench twice, and the second time my 18mm wrench decided to crack me full speed in the face. I'm a prity big guy, and was turning these bolts by hand... I got a boo-boo on my upper eye brow. **** happens, at least i know someone with an 18mm wrench stands no chance trying to take me down lol.
Rear end looks good, did a little painting ( Will post pics of the whole swap when I am done). The Intake and heads are at the machine shop Intake is getting matched to my heads, Heads are 2.02" Intake 1.6" Exhaust intake port is being increased by 25cc and the exhaust is also being opened up a bit. I'm using trick flow valves who are made by a great company called ferrea.
As for a cam, I really do need to call comp. I figure i idle around 750-1.2k now it will be a DD, well it's also a weekend car but to be safe i want to say DD. I want that car to jump off the line, becasue it will be at the track sometimes. I want a 1/4 mi. time of no more then 12.50, and i want to shoot for high 11's. A buddy of mine has a 10 second lt1 but he is running NO2.
I want a T56 but have a beefed up 4L60E with a transgo shift kit.
Purchaced:
LT1 Motor (Complete PCM and Harness)
Posi Rear End
Trick Flow valves
Custom Machined LT1-LT4 heads and intake ( Just a tad bigger then the LT4)
Heads and Intake ported and polished
MSD 8.5mm Wires
New Front and rear brake rotors ( Drilled and slotted)
Front and Rear brakes
K&N intake from my old V6
Custom Machined MAF ported and polished
NKG Plat Sparkplugs
A buttload of paint(10), break parts cleaner (2), intake cleaner (28), and PB blaster (2)
AC condensor ( MY A/C was shot)
Fel-pro gaskets ( Complete )
Fel-pro Head bolts ( 2 sets )
Lucas Gear oil
Somekinda Posi additive lube too
Fram oil filter
Driveshaft loop
Craftsmen tools ( like 300 bucks worth because i needed to start my own collection.)
Cash is getting short...but the next few buys:
LS1 driveshaft ( I have a 2 peice i need a one peice)
1.6 Roller Rockers
Radiator
Hoses
Torque converter
Injectors
Electric water pump
Coolant
Motor oil
Camshaft
Torque Arm ( maybe)
Headers ( Thinking SPL, Tubular Edelbrocks, or Some sort of Long tube)
Custom PCM by PCM fo less
Custom Dual exhaust (Meinakee will create it and weld it.)
Mufflers (x2)
Cat (x2)
I think thats it... I know if i forget something i can refer back to this list. I think i am going to turn this thread into what I'm doing ( progress wise) and post the help i need. If anyone has anything else to add to my list I may need please post it.
I do need help with the vacume lines and their location in the future.
Thanks again guys!

what about timing set? also... for the headers, i would look into hooker long tubes, or Pacesetter. both are very well priced and excellent products. do you need to keep EGR/AIR and that emmisions crap or not? if not, i wouldnt bother with the cats. just tune the computer for it. also JW is the motor 95+ with vented opti or not, and is it OBDII or I. sounds like you got a good project going on. cant wait for more progress.

ew, Pacesetter. I had a set on my 3.4L V6 and the black paint peeled off in 5 minutes of my v6 running. Then the weld split on the EGR connection. So pacesetter seemed like doo doo to me. If they are good, i will consider them...I just suppose my last set was bad luck. Motor is a 1994... is that bad? I don't know much about the opti... but if it needs a new one/ or a better one let me know. I don't want to run cats, and I don't think i will. As for a timing set I was looking into an lt4 cam/ lt4 timing set package but don't know if i should get a different name brand timing set...
Some of my summit gear cam in today. 2.02" Intake and 1.6" Exhaust Valves, Front brakes, NKG iridium spark plugs, and my driveshaft loop are in. Rotors are in and installed, Rear is in and installed, heads and intake are in chemical cleaner until friday, I will drop off the valves then. The machinist told me they would be done by next friday. I will use my air dremel to do the exhaust since i didn't know what kind of exhaust headers i was going to use.

honestly... ive heard mostly good things about the pacesetters. some bad but mostly good, especially for the price, and like Paar said get coated. other than those, i love the hookers i got. hooker ORYpipe bolted right up and they really have been great. i love them. also, check out the small block chevy double roller timing sets, if you get an Ewater pump cause then you dont need the waterpump driveshaft and can convert timing set to normal SBC like all others. they are only like 50 bucks and you said you were getting the Ewaterpump anyways. good luck, hope everything goes well.

the paint is supposed to burn off, it is just there to protect them during shipping lol ... i have hooker super comp long tubes they are real good quality
id also have to say im pretty impressed with u and ur decisions with the swap. most people only talk about doing a v8 swap.. its nice to see someone doing it, and doing it pretty quickly like yourself. best of all its nice to see someone that is doing it right and putting in the extra money and extra time on parts.

well ive never tried it but i heard you can do it, also forgot to mention it only works on vented opti setups, which is what i heard again. so idk, but it made sense to me.

Thanks for the props aaron.
Things always work out where your eyes are much much bigger then you budget. I really want to reach 11-12 second 1/4 But i really don't want to use NO2. I was only going to do the swap without performance parts, but some of my family members have 13-14 second cars... I was thinking about 3.73's in the rear end... but I'm not confidant i can do a gear swap. I also forgot to put on my list a fuel pump becasue the V6's pump is different from the V8's. Summit is having a sale on one for 90 bucks, or I can go to a pull yard and get one for $25. I am really excited, I get paid tomorrow...and that check is spent lol. It's down to the dollar, If everything works out well I can have it done in 2 weeks, if $$$ is an issue It's going to take me 4-6weeks.
Tell your some people about the eBay auction i am hosting lol, I can use a bit of spare cash. BTW, if any of you want the motor in the auction thats at 1200, you can take it for $1025 with the complete setup. rear end for 200 just let me know i will add a buy it now option.

I"m assuming an in-line for that price, or is it a drop in?
I can verify that my in-line booster pump- 255lph from ATI isn't enough to support 500rwhp, in fact it barely supported the 476rwhp I was running.
If you are looking to get into 11-12 range and also keep the car comfortable to drive, you are going to need either the perfect suspension set-up or over 400 rwhp.
My only advice, is that since you have the car 'mostly' apart now, do as much as you can in supporting mods so its less you have to do in the future.
Case in point- the fuel system going into my car will easily support 1000hp but since I am looking at only making 550rwhp or so I certainly don't have to worry about running out of fuel this time!!
