i need a cam for my z

i getting ready to take my timing chain and sprockets out and replacing them and ive made the decision to replace the cam and lifters.I dont know what type of cam i should use.I definately want a mild cam ,so if anybody here has one of can help me pick out 1 i would gladly apprieciate it. and how do i get the lifters out...since im not using them again couldnt i use pliers or somethin to pull em out?

FORCE_FED_Z 03-19-2006 01:02 AM

Shouldn't need pliers, they should come right out..if not, try a magnet to pull them, last resort should be the pliers. You could always sell them cheap on ebay if they are still worth anything..

ok ,do u have any suggestions on a cam?

NoRiceInside 03-19-2006 03:19 AM

cc305 or lt4 hotcam are mild

Sinister95Z 03-19-2006 04:30 AM

Since you are going to have it all apart anyways, you should just throw a LE1 package in there.

Comp Cam's new XFI cams are pretty good I heard. IMO a custom grind is always the best route to go IMO.

FORCE_FED_Z 03-19-2006 12:39 PM

TPiS, Comp, and many others have some good cams, if you want mild, then don't go above .500 lift. Once you go that high you need either a really nice set of heads to make use of it or some type of forced induction to make up for it.

i found one from comp cams: 210/220 .500/.510

beside poeple thinking it was too small... but i dont think that will be a problem with you:lolsign:

NoRiceInside 03-19-2006 06:40 PM

yeah ive heard that the lt4 is too mild. thats why i wanna cc305

Sinister95Z 03-19-2006 07:12 PM

I think that CC 210/220 would be a little TOO mild. If you went with something that small, I think you would be very disapointed. It is probably not to far from stock. At the very least to even make it worth it I would go with a Hotcam kit or like Caleb said the CC305. You could make more power than that cam is going to give you for alot less money.

69z-28 03-19-2006 07:41 PM

well do you need to pass emmisions? if you dont then get the LE1 package, other wise get the hotcam kit and send the heads to lloyd elliot.

rice burner 03-20-2006 04:30 PM

yea i have to pass emissons...but i dont want to get a cam where i need to have head work to see results..i just want something that will give me a little more power....the lt4 kit is something i can get when my motor is rebuilt.
