Intake

Well since im loosing my job on the 31st, the SS hood I wanted before I get my senior pictures taken is out of the question. I havent really found anything else for a good appearane mod thats in my dollar figure. So I started looking at some of your signatures, seems alot of you guys have some sort of an aftermarket intake. Although its not an appearance mod, theres not really any thing else I can afford to do to the car at this point in time. (or in the near future for that matter). What is really the best thing out there, I have seen the various CAI systems but just yesterday I seen someone on here wiht a FIPK system(or something like that). Is there a difference in the way they work? Whats the deal?

Sorry for the long post!

they all work the same just depends on size and how its bent...and where its mounted. like a CAI is mounted where it will take in cold air obvioulsy. they are all basically the same. some like K and N you would have to get for Cali just b/c its got a sticker or somethin saying its emmsion legal. hope that helped

I bought the full chrome intake tube from the throttle body with K&N filter for my v6 from ebay too. It works well. Or you can just swap out the air intake box for a smaller tube with a K&N filter off ebay too (cheaper).

or you could go the homemade way and make ur own outta pvc piping and buy a conical filter seperately. they are all the same so dont go out and get 230 dollar CAI

I would rec. one that gets the air filter out of the engine bay. This will lower the IAT and make your car run better.

What do you mean one that gets it out of the engine bay?

I have looked on ebay on almost a daily basis, but no such luck, there are probobly 100 for the early 4th gens but I didnt find anything other than the SLP one for 98+, and I have a 99.

One that goes down towards the ground. A cold air intake. A CAI.

Youre looking for the wrong thing then. They are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS on ebay. In fact, I get so tired of searching for 97 camaro parts because I have to sift through 8000 air intakes.

Search "air intake", or "CAI", or "cold air intake"... 3.8 or 3.4 depending on what you have.

yeah you want to get a stage 2 intake from ebay. those route the tubing out of the engine bay into the inner fender well. those get the best results.

also sometimes it helps if u look for the parts by using the engine type instead of the car year, like instead of putting "CAI for 1999 camaro" put " CAI for 3.8l v6" or some kind of variation, thats just how its been for me its easier alot of times to look by engine, and just incase u dont know the CAI wont look like ur stock intake thats going forward it will go to the left and down through a tube so dont not get one cause it looks different from ur stock one cause it will look completely different

Ok, does year matter? There isnt any 98+ CAI's on the bay. All of it is for 3.8's of earlyer year.
