Question LT-5????

I was reading the otherday and ran across an article on a LT-5 block. It was only used in vettes. I was offered to buy one a few weeks back but I can not find much on them. I have the Lt-4 now but I was told the LT-5 is way better. Does anyone know anything about this block. The guy is still offering it to me for $800.00 because he doesn't want to pull it out he wants me to pull it out for him. Any information would be great.

i wouldnt go for it. parts are limited from what ive seen. they are very rare and pretty complicated. no body knows a whole lot about them because they only came in some ZR1 c4 vettes. i think you might be able to buy a LT5 crate engine but it costs more than a new LS1 i think.haha

Yeah... especially since lotus helped build it, Ill bet its a little different than your basic LTx

They came in 90-95 vettes if that helps you at all.

They were an overhead cam style engine- COMPLETELY different than what you have.

I wouldn't do it, unless you just want to do it to try and resell once you have it out, but like what was said already- they were in the limited production to begin with, and its hard to find parts so unless you can find someone who needs it I doubt its worth the trouble..

Save your $800 for your own motor-

Would it even fit in a 4th gen camaro? I've seen pics of the thing and it's a complately differant configuration than a normal LT1 or LT4 set up.

you cannot buy the lt5 as a crate motor. Last time i seen one for sale it was 25K but in full working condition.. Its a GM/Lotus based engine. But if it blows up good luck in findn anyparts for it.

Very sweet. if i knew how to fix on and i got a good deal id jump on it... 375 hp in the earlie zr1s and 400 in the later... a guy around here has a white zr1 and i got to ride in it and damn that ****** takes off.

little more info i found:
The zr1/lt5 engine was designed by lotus when GM owned them. You can see the gen 2 in the current Esprit. They were all built in oaklahoma by Mercury marine. You can tell the zri from 91-92 because it has the round rear , is 4" wider to fit the 315's, has the "power key" in the center console ,and has the third brake light on the decklid. From 93-95 all the vettes went to the round rear, but the zr1 retained the third brake light on the decklid and the regular vette had it between the tail lights. The zr1 rear facia also was 4" wider even when the regular vette went with the rounded rear.

i personally wouldnt spend my money on an engine that is going to be impossible to find parts before i did that before in another car and just ended up selling it because it was too hard to find parts

Good info. I have been putting a lot of money into the LT4. I am trying some hooker long tubes now. I got the Lt4 heads proted and bored the block 40 over. I am looking for a newer Lunati crank. It is dynod now to be 495 hp @ 502 ft.lbs of torque. I am really interest to see what the long tubes will add to it. I was just wondering about the Lt5. It runs strong but the guy is dropping a LS7 in it and wanted to know if I still wanted the block. Thanks for your inputs.

never even heard of an LT-5 and if your makin the power you say than there isn't much room for improvement unless you get an all out race engine.

ive come to find that unless someone is from a f-body LT1/LS1 specific shop like Speed INC over here or Outlaw Motorsports, they really dont know **** abuot these cars. im sorry but i just cant stand talking to general mechanics about my car or similar cars. they think that since they are older and are AES certified or w/e they know dick about SS's or w/e. idk why but it urkes me when they say things like they know and they just plain dont. o well.
