I had a switch melt on me already went to Napa and bought a heavy duty one.

what the hell are you guys talking about? the manual fan switch doesnt supply power. mine simply grounds the fan wire when it comes out of the pcm, so the fan turns on. and i didnt use a relay. its been working perfectly for over a year.

Thats what I thought... see I was confused with all of this because I've never heard of having to use a relay with this switch... Hopefully you are right, and I've heard that it works like that.

because the proper way to hook up a switch is have it supply power, having it supply ground can cause unwanted operation (if the switch shorts for some reason a fuse won't blow) there are people who have replaced a fuse with a solid wire and not had a problem for years, it's still wrong and asking for trouble

The manual fan switch mod was actually one of the more useless mods I've done in my time as an F-Body owner. With headers, the car doesn't run very hot. Only real worth will be in HEAVY HEAVY traffic or at the drag strip. And even then, this thing runs pretty cool.

that's my thinking, it only helps if your needing it to run say while the engine's off

well my car used to stay pretty cool, under the first hash mark, but recently because of summer its been getting up to like the halfway mark. Sometimes I am stuck in pretty heavy traffic through town, so I thought it would be nice to hook up, otherwise i better find my reciept and return everything :/

Well the way That I had it hooked up was power through teh switch because that was the way it was hooked up when got the car but I didnt know it was that way. and my switches keep melting and when I turned the car off if I had forgot to turn the fan off furn the car would keep running be casue the fan was generating power and send it back through the fuse panel. I didnt relize this until about 2 month ago when my sec switch went out and I put the dual fans in with two relays and a switch just supplying the keyed power not the keyed and the main power. no melted switchs yet lol

change your thermostat, and flush the radiator. your car doesn't have enough mods to need cooling upgrades (the best upgrade to cooling is leave the fans on auto but put a decent fan in, the f body one won't cool a v8 s10, but a ford taurus one will)halfway still isn't bad, you may want to leave it and check your milage, I bet it's better. Under the first hash mark is too cold, the car will be stuck in cold start and dump gas, washing the cylinders down and destroying the engine (if you go to a race track you'll find the pros want to start their runs with their cars around 200*)

i got a switch from autozone.it wasnt a cheap one though..it cost about 8 bucks.The switch was made of copper ...thats where the wire is connected to the s.I then unplugged the plugs to the fan then attached female plugs to the fan then ran the wire to the switch .I havent had a problem.........one secret i have though is hook up one fan to a switch and let the other come on when its suppose to that way majority of the time u wont have to use the second fan

haha. manual fan switch. my LT1 has a low temp fan kit, so the PCM turns the fan on around 195. my engine stays soooooooooo cool. :D

why do u need a relay? you are just grounding the switch to the relay

because of the current, fire is a bad thing, a relay is a safety precaution

drrrrrrrr hey take ur head out of u know ware there is a relay already on the fan...

all you are doing by adding a switch to a ground wire, is grounding the wire to the relay already on the car.
