Is my tranny messed up?
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if anyone knows what i can do to fix it..
Here is the deal
I have a 1995 Z28 (LT1) with around 41k miles on it
Automatic Trans.
lets say im driving around casually everything is fine
but if i punch it from a lower speed, you can hear a grinding.. it doesnt sound like metal tho, it sounds like plastic, and it sounds like it come from directy under the shifter or inside the centercounsel.. i have NO idea what i should do or what the problem is.. again its only when i punch it from low speed, and the sound happens only in the first two gears it seems it skips a but too
any suggestings would be great

milage is very low for year, hve all fluids been changed? may have something moving that shouldn't be and hitting (shift cable maybe hitting and rattling?) really need to get under there ad see what is touching, maybe pull the console out and drive see if anything inside is moving (unlikely) may need new u joints (again from lack of use they dry out, and will sound like plastic) not driving a car is harder on it than putting a bunch of miles, cars shouldn't sit

Possibly your tranny mount is starting to go- again unlikely for the miles, but it will still make your tran come up in the console, possibly making the plastic sound you describe. And at lower speeds the motor can make enough torque to raise it where as at higher speeds a relatively stock car can't.

Those jack-asses...there isn't even a carrier bearing on the 4th gen Z's- I can go to the Autozone that is 1 mile from my house and pick one up off the shelf.
GM has used the same tranny mount for about the last 30 years. Its not a direct bolt-up to the car, I think you have to get a different length bolt than the one Energy supplies, but you won't break it, esp. with a realtively stock car.
In fact, here's the part number for it- 3.1108G its an in stock part and they should have it. Like I said, it will require slight modification, but it will work and it will save you $30, but if you like bolt-in only parts pick up a 3.1132G it will have to special ordered, but at least its a completely bolt-in part.
I can't believe stores like this actually survive with stupid people behind the counters...

I mean honestly- how dumb do you have to be-
Buyer-"Hi, I need a tranny mount"
Autozoner-"Hmm...Actually I think you need a carrier bearing for your car, since in order to get it work you would have to do a 2 piece driveshaft conversion and you will be all set. Since you are getting parts, perhaps I can interest you some piston return springs or some halogen fluid?"
Absolute morons these days...

hahaha it basically went like this
"Hey, a couple of my friends told me i should be looking for some kind of mount for my transmission? I'm having a problem with the driveline." after this the guy looked at me as if i had a creature attached to my face, so then i explained the problem and he was like "Ohhhhh, you mean you need a carrier bearing!!" i was like "uhhh.. ok" then he was like "What make model and year." i was like "95 Camaro 8 cylinder" he goes "yea it looks like we only supply the older ones.. in the 80's.. sorry you will have to go somewhere else" i was like "alright..thanks.. i guess"
Then i brought my car into school and got it on the lift and had a look at what was going on
one of the teachers that was in the room came to look at it (a bunch of tech teachers have lunch there, no clue why lol), i explained the problem and immediately he said (this guy has the SRT neon), oh its the tranny mount.. right here. Low and behold, it wasn't the carrier bearing lol, so thats the story! haha thanks all again
