New exhaust coming soon....

I really didn't want to replace my exhaust system, but it looks like I will have to. Since my entire system is welded together (even my headers are welded to the ory), there is no flex in the pipes which is ruining my headers. The header tubes are starting to pop the welds that hold them to the flange that attached to the engine.

So, I took it to a shop in San Antonio that I know real well to see what they could do. I've always wanted the true duals, but I didn't like the idea of dumps before the axle. This shop is gonna build me a custom true dual exhaust system that goes over the axle and out the rear next Monday.

While I am pissed my new PC money is going towards exhaust, it'll be nice to finally have a good system on my car.

While the duals will be awesome it sucks the guy who install the last exhaust welding it all together. I don't understand why you would weld the header's to the ORY.

Well, thats mostly my fault. When I first got the car the headers weren't clamped to the ORY very well and as a result I would get a sound like a gunshot every now and then.....very annoying. At the time I didn't know much at all about cars (other than appearance issues), and so I took it to a local exhaust shop to get it fixed. They told me that they couldn't clamp it for some reason but that they could weld it. I said, sure why not. In retrospect I realize that was a bad idea......had the guys at the shop bothered to tell me that welding it would cause my system to crack over time because it didn't have any room to flex, I wouldn't have done it.

But oh well, at least now I have a reason to get true duals right? :)

Way to look on the bright side, are you getting new header's as well?

I think they are going to be able to repair my Pacesetters. I really don't want to buy new headers.

I just got a call from them today. $550 w/ it dumped before the axle, or $875 with it going over the axle. Is it just me, or is that a HUGE price jump? It can't be that much more piping, can it?

I don't know what to do. I don't want it dumped before the axle.....but I also don't wanna pay that much either. :(

Bernotas05 02-14-2006 12:32 AM

wow thats alot way to much

97z2801ss 02-14-2006 12:40 AM

yea kinda expensive

Mike Jones 02-14-2006 12:53 AM

Ouch, that's up to you but if you don't go all the way to the back you will regret it.

I agree. $875 sounds like a lot, but they build these systems from scratch.....so its a personalized custom system. I just cannot believe the price difference between the dumps & over the axle.

blue89vert 02-14-2006 12:29 PM

Yikes! Well if you do it it would be worth every dollar....i think

mxracerbrian 02-14-2006 01:43 PM

i agree! it would be sweet!

Jpack 02-14-2006 02:54 PM

Well if you decide on dumping at the axle, for the price this can't be beat.
