new to forum
hi im new to this forum. i jus bought an 89 camaro rs with the v6. i already have a 305 with the full wiring harness to drop it in. the v6 runs good still and im not planning on putting the car on the road for a couple of months. im doing body work/ new paintjob along with new brakes and brake lines. what i wanna know is if it is more economical to leave the v6 until it goes considering gas prices going up? or will the 305 be just as good or better on gas?

305 will be worse on gas but probly not a whole lot. honestly i wouldn't go through the trouble of putting a 305 in it. u have to change most of the drivetrain since you have the v6. i would just get a 350 to drop in it and go carberated so theres not much wiring involved. thats just my opinion though. wiring isn't my thing. if u dont wanna buy a 350 then go ahead and put the 305 in. itll sound lots better than the v6 and will be faster.

Welcome
As for the swap. The motor mount placement isn't changing really it's the mounts themselves that change. Plus you can't use the same trans from a V6 on the 305/350. Not going to work unfortunately. I agree though if it's possible, try to get the 350. You're just going to regret later doing all the work, and wanting something better.
Quite honestly, unless you're in love with the car, I'd even just try selling it and buying one with the V8 in it already. The difference in price will be made up with not having to deal with the swap issues.

yea im not really in love with the car. i got it on a steal from a guy who needed money quick. i think im gonna do a little body work on it and paint it. drive it around for awhile til i find one with a v-8.. or if i get spunky put in the 305. the 305 came out of a camaro so i do have the wiring harness and possible might be able to go back n get the trans.
