new memeber

hi guys i am new to modding camaros. right now i have a 91 but my little drove it for about 8 months when he smashed up his jetta and really messed the car up.(close to the total/cost to much to fix line) because of that i am thinking of getting a new camaro. here is my question i love the older bodys of camaros 87 up to the 92. now my question is i want to get as many hp out of this car so should i get a 350 right off the bat or get a 305 ? i want to make this drag ready so i am going to sink a good bit of money in to his. also what would be the best year if i am trying to make this a drag camaro

thanks kilo
p.s. i hope this is the right area

hey, welcome. ok, if you want that body style it goes from 85-90 then 91-92 have a little diff. GFX. they are all kinda same the tho, yea you should get a 350 cause off the bat the torque si so much greater, and you can get good heads and stuff for 350s. if you want to spend a lot of money and go all out. wait for a nice 350.

Welcome to project camaro! good luck getting a new camaro I would go with a 350 casue I went with a 305 and wish I would have gone with a 350 or even was looking at a 406.

go 350 the 305 has issues with reliability plus low power, and welcome

thanks guys for the input but i have one more question i was looking at the history of the 3rd gens and it looks like every 2 or so years they change up the eng what would be my best bet for modding i was thinking 90 or an 87 camaro.

archemedes 01-12-2005 03:50 PM

the engine didn't really change that much revisions to camshaft timing, and maybe intake, a tpi is going to be better than a tbi unless you are planning on a new induction system

welcome...

yeah problem is thought not many third gens had 350s. it was an option for the z28s and standard on irocs, but both are exensive.

kilobyte 01-12-2005 04:40 PM

well i found some 350s around me for about 3g witch is not that bad i am willing to pay that if i have to. and i am sorry i am new to the whole tbi tpi terms. i am thinking of going to just try and get a 90 or i want to get an 87 both i can get for around 3g

well TBI stands for throttle body injection. here's an easy way to think about it, the setup is similar to a carburetor. theres a large throttle body with a fuel injector built into it...and TPI stands for tuned port injection. this is bascially how all cars are today, they have a throttle body in front, then intake runners to the manifold, then fuel injectors into each runner. i realize tuned port injection has other forms, but the most common form is the L98 with the long intake runners:

Welcome...Ill be there 4 all ur 3rd gen needs...Arch will steal some but hey ive learned 2 live with it :lolsign: :nana:

NoRiceInside 01-12-2005 05:16 PM

seems like i'm starting to steal it too ;)

69z-28 01-12-2005 06:36 PM

yea , but you are wrong, irocs didnt come standard with 350's. they were optionson the cars. and one more thing. the 350 tpi motor in camaros (L98) is not the same as the 350 in corvette motors i dont think.
