well if you can, take the tire off first. most tire shops will charge you, but not much.

it is easily possible with tires on, but i wouldnt want them in the way. best thing to do, prep the surface with sandable primer. i dont know if you can wet-sand the wheels cuz i dont know what the material is, might be paint, might be powder coating.

so just prime, sand, paint, clear coat, bam.

My friend did his rims and he just put news paper and wraped the tires up so none of the paint would get on them. Worked out real good saved money so he didnt have to do the hastle of taken the tires off and puttin them back on.

werd, it's an easy low-cost mod. Reminds me of the curb rash fix-it tutorial I saw... said if you ever get curb rash, an easy mod is to simply use filler like bondo to fill in the rash and then use like mercedes silver or something like that to paint your rims, in the end it'd look good as new.

when we painted mine, we had them sandblasted to remove the remains of the chrome, then I hand sanded the rougher areas, used a filler primer, sanded some more, filler, sanded, primer, paint, and then clear coat. Jason, your friend did a good job on those. They look nice.

I am not trying to make fun of painted rims so this is just a question. What is the point of painting the rims black, or any color, when you can buy some sweet black anodized rims? Besides saving money that is. I guess I have never really seen painted rims.

actually you want the clear coat the paint will stick to that better than the metal scuff it with a scotch brite pad add primer then paint

You answered it in your post. People paint the rims because they can't afford new ones, and painting is the cheapest, next best way to get "new" rims.

Salad Shooter is just a rim right? Or is it a specific rim?

same rims u got buddy.lol. they look like salad shooters. i called them that one time in front of my mom then she saw them and shes like "hey i have a salad shooter and those wheels look just like it." lol. anyways, painting chrome is hard and not very good.

i heard from someone on cz28 that i should take the clear coat off with aircraft stripper or somethign then sand the wheels a little after that clear is off then paint...? i dont know what would be best here but this is what i was thinking, cause there was a tutorial for painting iroc wheels and he stripped the clear first. any ideas?

only strip if the clear is peeling or damaged same as paint on the car it's a better base than you can make
as for chrome paint if you do that your a redneck chrome does not come in a paint can it's just silver paint
