what exactly was your car doing with the bad battery? i think its my starter b/c its probly about due to go out since i think its an original and has 153k miles on it. but idk. been really sick and haven't been able to get over to the garage to try out the hammer method yet.

Wherever you go should be able to tell you what starter you need if you tell them what you have I do believe. You can get a replacement solenoid, and I believe the starters do come with them too. I'd ask to make sure when (if) you buy.

But check the connections to the solenoid from the battery and to the starter and all that too, maybe its disconnected somewhere! Try the hammer with you trying to start it and someone tapping the starter, and if that don't work, you may need a new starter. I am assuming you are getting power!?

what do you mean my getting power? the battery is full and it sounds like the starter is just jammed up or something

thats what happened to me in the fall, but i knew it was the starter because there was hardly any noise at all. it didnt even sound like it was trying to turn over there were a few clicks that you couldnt notice from inside the car but would have to be standing over the engine bay to hear.

a new started would run you from 100 - 150$

but anyway gl finding whats up with it...

[Read like a pirate] Yarrgh I meant like getting power to the accessories and the such. And if the starter be sounding like it be jammed up, then mayhaps the starter be jammed up yar.

MyFirstCamaro be right about it making sounds. If'n it be making clicks, the solenoid be not getting enough juice, if it be making jamming noises, then perchance it be getting enough juice. You said you charged ye battery, so's probably not be the case of the former aye?

And in all actuality, I don't reckon I know truly why I asked ye about said accessories, merely to point out that if the accessories weren't working, it would probably be yargh battery.

The hammer method may work like phate says, just don't hit it too hard, start from little hits and try to start the car, i think the noise you hear is a stuck (dunno if i spelled thart correctly) bendix. Sometimes ig gets stucked and even releases by itself. Mine done that once and got released only by turning the key several times and waited a day before trying again. The other option is changing it like everybody says. Good luck!

uhhh i already changed it. it wasn't the starter but i wanted to replace it anyways. it was the battery so i replaced that too. starts perfectly now. the hammer method didn't work b/c it was my battery. but my starter was so worn it would still hardly start my car so i just replaced both.
