Hey guys,
I have a 1991 camaro rs 3.1 litre and when im decelerating it makes a backfire/popping noise. I readjusted my timing it was 2 degrees off which wasnt that bad so it made no difference. Its not my muffler because I just got a new factory exhaust installed into the car from Meineke. Any ideas on what I can/should do to fix this. Its not hurting the motor but it is annoying Thanks

same thing with mine...i put flowmaster exhaust on my 94 camaro...popped like crazy before the exhaust so that was a deciding factor in me buying the flowmaster exhaust...but the problem never went away and it doesnt louder no becuase of the exhaust...it is annoying and doesnt sound too good...sometimes it will even pope when i shift. idk wut it is either...

it's running rich (one probelm with the cold t stats)could also be the ecm is a bit slow, misadjusted tps, bad o2 sensor (or just dirty)also a hollow cat will do that (not exactly sure why, but I have seen it a few times)

mine does it too. did it before when i had no muffler and also now with a bullet(big difference) lol. anyways it does it if downshift and get the rpms high enough ie: downshifting to a low gear at a higher speed, and also it does it a lot more when the car is still cold. i like the noise, its funny as hell too cause it always seems to do it when i drive past a group of people or some girls standing on the corner. i just lmao and keep going. i geuss its just cause im a kid, but all i know is that i like it when it does it.lol

hmm i think mine is the O2 sensor....i keep getting a service engine soon light everytime i drive it...im pretty sure its because of the O2. tha nks.

ecm you swap with a known good one to test, tps may need adjustment (can't remeber how to do it)

Mines the same if im going errr 40-45 and need to slow down ill put it in 2nd and the RPMs get high and sometimes here that popping but its only when I do that. I think its pretty cool sounding

yep. i usually cruise side streets in 3rd at 30 and then i just let off and go into 2nd around 25-30 and i get a big rumble and you can here like backpressure almost building up then it lets out and a lot of times i get a loud crisp poplol

just if you like doing that don't use a glasspack muffler, the packing will start to soak with gas

yea mine isnt crisp...mine is a 6 banger so its loud and annoying high-pitched. not too muscular.
