Thumbs up Pretty Sure its time to open up my Borla Exhaust

Okay, before I start, all of you know that for f-bods, Borla cat-backs have adjustable plates for different sound levels right? OK good. Anyway..

Well... Its funny that it took me so long to realize this, but since weather has been getting colder, I've noticed the steam from the exhaust only coming out of the left pipe .... Which means that all the exhaust is being pushed through the muffler. I guess because my car sounded so good and loud that I just assumed it was partially opened up. Well ... I've decided considering I'm not going to be driving it as much over winter, to Open er up!!! I want to hear the beast straight from the BBK Headers.

Anywho, I attempted to break loose the bolts with just a wrench and it didn't work out so well, cuz they are on there good. I've made a little plan to take it down to the local lube center where I know the manager and have them take out the plate, BUT I KINDA WANNA DO IT NOW! Any advice? ... I've heard just lots of WD-40 and maybe heating it up (which I can't do).

Man ... As soon as I get her opened up, I'll post a couple movies ... I've heard 2-3 open exhaust LT1s and they are amazing, especially the ones with headers ... CANT WAIT!! And actually I've never heard a borla open exhaust in person. Its supposed to sound amazing cuz its 25% borla 75% open. Oh man, Im pumped.

HEY your gonna love the borla opened up. I've got a 94 Z with borla and I have the plates out. I also have a hollowed out cat. I strongly agree with the pb blaster. once you have let it soak in for a little while, get yourself an air chisel with a flat tip and hammer on the side of the nuts for a little while. this will loosen up all of the rust. just make sure to stay on a flat side of the nut and not the threads. hope this helps, good luck!

Wait- you have a steam engine- must be a pain loading up coal and wood every morning!!!

Look at the bolts- go to the store and buy some new ones. Then go back home and just cut the old bolts off if the heat doesn't work. You don't need a full torch, even a propane torch should be enough to break those little bolts loose..

Yeah, but I got so much more HP for the steam engine conversion. lol, jk. I meant the noticably viewable condensation stuff that happens when the weather is cold.

Anyway, thanks for all the advice guys! I'll be attempting everything that was suggested as soon as I get the tools. Hopefully tommarow. Man, its gonna be sweet. As soon as I'm done, I'll try to post a video with good sound quality.

wd40 is a cleaner not a rust penetrant, use pb blaster or similar (if it doesn't smell like cat pee it aint penetrating oil)

It sounds so good opened up.

I have mine going 75% or so through the muffler just because I've been longer on the interstate than normal but it's normally completely open.
