SMOG??

well i just bought a 95 Camaro z28 and the guy said he had bought a new catalytic converter. he said that in order for it to pass the SMOG that i need to use the car for like 40 miles and then take it and that it will pass. i just wanted to know if this is true and if theres any other way to do it faster?

Thats true. Its because he had to reset the DTC code it threw for the cat, and driving it resets the readiness codes to prepare it for inspection. So you must drive it for a bit.

But, thats specific to different states. Here in NC, if its 96-, then its a safety inspection, and not emissions, so it wouldnt matter.

take it on the highway for like 10-20 minutes before you go. this will clean out some of the carbon u have built up in your engine.
