smog pump

if i remove my smog pump it will most likely trigger a few DTCs, so is there some way to keep the PCM happy if i were to remove my AIR ****?

Yeah with Cali being such a pain on emissions I recemmend you keep the air pump.

Other than the couple of pounds (maybe) and room, there aren't really benefits to removing it. Its a common misconception that it will boost your power. Since it doesn't use it under any type of load, then what benefits are you lookin for?

I pulled mine and all the associated tubing for a cleaner engine compartment and to make it easier to work on. I didn't do it for a boost in power.

To answer your question- if you drive under load all the time, you won't trip a code. But as soon as you cruise a little it will throw the light. The easiest way would be to buy a cable from AKM and buy LT1 edit and just tune it out.

yeah thats why i wanna do it. with my 95Z the AIR tubing was over the headers, on this 97 TA its on the valve covers, well the passenger side at least, so that makes it tricky to run the plug wires, and overall its just unsightly. plus it makes my header selection easier. the only ones with AIR and EGR are pacesetter.

and about the EGR, my 95 doesnt have it and it runs fine, so i think even though it keeps cylinder head temps down, i dont drive it hard enough for it to damage anything...so i might do away with both.

so what is this LT1 edit? when i had my v6 i heard a bit about it, but now that i have an LT1 i really want one

no, every little emissions thing will set it. OBDII only lights the SES light if the code is an A or B type emissions related code.

oh ****! i just did a google search. carputing.com sells it for ******* $2000 for unlimited tunes!!!!! i thought it was software you buy? if so why does it matter how many tunes you do?

wait a minute...lol.

thats unlimited PCMs, not tunes. k i got scared. only $450. and i heard it eliminated skip shift...does it also eliminate the light? either way, time to sell my skip shift eliminator

Actually it does. What you are doing to eliminate is actually changing the parameters in which the computer will activate it. You can change the load, throttle position and RPM window in which it activates.

Mine was changed to activate the Skip shift at 2800 rpm and deactivate it at 2400 rpm, so basically the computer thinks it can't engage it till 2800, but since its over the 2400 it won't allow it. And since its never engaged, the light will never come on either.

LT1 is a simple yet powerful program that will let you change anything that you should ever want to. Your OBDII can do a couple more things that the OBDI can so you should be fine until you decide that you want to go with an all out with a stand alone fuel management system...its well worth the $$...

no chad you probably had the skip shift eliminator. my Z has that and i just bought one for my TA. its a plug in thing that plugs into the solenoid. that eliminates the lockout in the trans, but not the command for skip shift in the PCM.

LT1 edit eliminates the command in the PCM so the light nor the solenoid get the signal.

damn if i knew all that why did i bother to ask if it eliminated the light?

Cause you hate V6 F-Bodys. LT1 edit is a nice tool but you have to know what your doing if you really want to take full advantage of what the system can do.
