Smokin'

well I have a 1968 350 in my 83 camaro.. its a first gen engine and at idle it doesnt smoke, if you rev it, wow she really smokes, its blue smoke, oil is burning somewhere.. i think.. the edge of the header pipe is all oil where the header meets the head.. no valve cover.. dad says Valve seals.. how do i fix this? New heads.. i know but any other ways? the motor is all original even has the manifold heat activated choke, everything is there from 1968 besides the distributor. heads are a a pain to remove... so anything easy is great! LOL i am ready to rip them off though...

if the header is getting oil on it the valve cover is leaking, valve guide seals would smoke more at startup, when reving sounds more like bad rings, time for a rebuild probably

given the age of the engine I doubt it, it's not that much more to do it right and have a good engine that will last instead of having to tear it apart every year to fix the next worn out part

To redo the rings means i may have to pull the engine?

gotta pull the pistons out, which means oil pan has to come off and crank out. reringing a 2 stroke works well, but a 4 stroke the rings don't wear as much as the bore does, so you probably need machine work

hone probably won't do it, to rebuild it in the car would be like spray painting something in a hurricane tied to a stick with thread, it can be done, but won't be quality, and takes 40 times longer

drive it with teh smoke, just add some no smoke, and use synthetic oil (it doesn't burn as easy)

so it wont smoke as much, i changed the oil like 2yrs ago it may need a oil change, the truck that the motor was in was drvin everywhere until it wouldnt pass inspection, now i need to rebuild the truck (body) 1968 Chevy longhorn C/20, never smoked until i put in in the camaro and hooked up exhaust..

that could be the cause of the smoke, that oil has eaten bearings and rings, oil gets acidic from running and needs to be changed periodically. Why did the truck fail? '68 there shouldn't be too much of an inspection
