Spark Plug Wires and Long Tubes

I just got Pacesetter long tube headers and ORY, Accel Extreme 9000 wires and iridium NGK spark plugs on my car. Seems my car may have burned one or a couple of the wires because they are very close third back on both sides. I don't think I can have wires routed this way with these headers for those two. My car is having the SES light come on and SES light is flashing sometimes between being steady. Started doing that about 2 miles from my house after the 60 mile drive from the shop :banghead:

I have not heard all stellar reviews of the OTVC kit with Taylor wires. What all is out there? Are the Magnecor wires listed on Thunder Racing's website that are supposed to be longer to accomodate headers any good? Can I buy longer Accel extreme 9000 wires for just those two and try to position them to not touch the headers?

I would just buy some of those heat wrapper things you can put around the boots. Or else look for some boot shields.

The best set-up to run would be custom length Magnecore wires that fit in OVC style holders.

What I have seen over at camaroz28.com is people taking the lengths from elitesparkplugs.com and ordering the custom Magnecore wires based off of them. I did some research for you.

1. 29" 2. 30.5" 3. 33" 4. 33" 5. 37" 6. 41" 7. 41" 8. 40.5" C. 10.25"
As measured BETWEEN the boots.

I think you may have to call them for the custom stuff.

Thanks for the info Sinister95Z! That sounds like the best route to go Got a few questions..

Which wires do people usually go with from them?

What is C? Coil?

Is one of these what I would need for them would I need anything else?

C is for the coil wire. I am pretty sure you can go shorter on that wire.

Most people go with something along these lines :

I charred my #5 wire within days of installing my LT's. The little fiberglass boot protectors won't do anything for long term heat exposure. They'll still burn up. I had one on my wire and it still baked inside of it. I bought the LT1 OTVC wire kit from thunderracing.com. It comes with all the wires, the looms, and even the boot crimping tool. You get everything you need to do the job for ~100 bucks. It comes with Taylor 8mm wires. I installed the kit myself and it went fairly easily. I'd recommend it to anybody.

The original post stated that she wanted to stay away from the Taylor kit. That and Magnecor wires are known to be very good wires. Better than most.

Yeah, I saw that, but I was just saying that I haven't had any problems with mine. I had a set of Taylor pre-made wires that had an arcing problem, but when I pulled the wires off I could see that there was a metal fiber (presumably the wound wire around the conductor) was sticking out from under the boot. With the OTVC kit, you have to put your own boots on so you can control factors like that.

Well I ended up getting the wires not to touch the headers and although the boot is melted on the back of one of the wires, the wire is fine and car runs like a champ! I put the wire for the passenger side third back over the two primaries and then under the next one. On the driver's side I can't do that but it did not melt like the passenger side boot so hoping it will be okay. It did come loose from its holding so I'm going to have to get it to stay better. I am actually pretty satisfied with the accel extreme 9000 wires. I will probably just replace the one that has a hole in the boot with the longest one I can get from accel for my car.
