SS hood on v6

As you may know, I have a genuine SS hood, getting ready for paint that will go on my car in the spring. Heres my question, since the SS hood is funtional, what do I need to make it work on my v6?

What do you mean "make it work"? All it does is feed fresh cool air into the engine bay... its not like it goes into the intake or something.

Some of them do, yes.

If you have a functional one, then you need the piece that makes it connect to the TB. Its very pointless though.. the cool air is going over the hot engine before it hits the TB, so its basically more work than you need to go though for the next to nothing, if any, gain you will get. It only added 'appearantly' 15 hp on the SS maros, so I dont think it will do anything.

Its not worth the effort or money to make it "functional". Just put it on the car for looks.

Well I did some searching, and I guess I wont screw with it, the black plastic peice that the air filter sits in and the airlid clamps to, that peice, in the front of it on the SS's its lifted up for air to go under the filter, where as its just flat on the v6's and z's. So unless anyone on here wants to sell that peice, im not going to go looking for it, not worth it from what ive read elsewere.

Thx tho....

Good choice, the work involved is way to much for what you'd get out of it. The hood still looks good so it's not a loss at all.

Interesting. You learn something new every day I suppose.

Doesnt make much sense though, where is the air filter located if it connects directly to the TB?

But yea, like they all said, there is very little gain go making it functional. From what i've heard other places on SS's it only gives 5-8hp (Im not sure how they would get this figure considering its going to help more when the car is moving than sitting still on a dyno..), probally less for a 3.4/3.8L

...

Air filter is right after the opening, and curls down into the TB.

That would make for an awesome hood paint job.
