Stalling for time....

What exactly is a stall, and what does it do? I know it's behind the engine, and in front of the transmission, and only Auto's have 'em. Any light you can shed would be helpful. When I search for Transmission stalls, all I get is. Is your Transmission Stalling? Bring it to Kennedy Transmission!.....Stupid crap!!

it's the torque converter, it's what couples the engine to the trans and makes it so you don't need a clutch, stall means it doesn't engage until a certain rpm

a higher stall converter will put ure engine in its power band... lt1 car with hot cam and basic boltons and 3.73s went 12.40 with a 3500 stall

Problem is a car with a high stall will use more gas and becomes harder to drive. I think a 3000 stall is about the best mix for a driveable car.

all depends on teh engine and gearing, most cars needing a real high stall don't get good milage anyway

I think I have heard of them before, just forgot the site or something. The format looks familiar.
