Struts and Springs
A guy on a local forum that I go to is parting out his 95 Z28.. One of the things that caught my interest were his Eibach Sportline springs. They would work on my car, except just not lower it as much as 1.8" or 2". Ive always wanted to get lowering springs, but not pay so much for them... Hes asking $75 for them and heres the deal:
-Front and rear springs.
-Hes including the struts so I dont have to mount the springs.
-Less than a year old (not sure of exactly how many miles)
The only reason I wouldnt want them is because I live at an apt. where the speedbumps = hell mounds. I can make it over the bumps now at an angle, with 2 people max and not scrape. Im worried after my 3" exhaust is on, and lowering another 2", Im bound to bottom the ***** out.
What do you guys think? $75 I think is a great price.. Give me some feedback.

I don't like used struts personally your supposed to replace them about every 65k miles or so (on average) a stock used strut and spring would run $15 plus shipping from what I see (to give you an idea of where to start) how long have they been on the car, how many miles?

Well, I could always just take the springs off couldnt I? Or is that a hard route to go? I honestly have no clue, Ive never done it before.
Also, the springs are aftermarket... And theyve been on for less than a year.

yes you need a machine to do it. its a wall mounted device that compresses the spring down.
Dude your speed bumps are fricken curbs! not sure how this is going to work...

i have a 94 Z28 with eibachs sportline lowering springs. it slammed my front end i think the back could go a little lower but its jsut me. I measured accurately and my catilytic converter was 3.5 inches from the ground, and i have a stock exhaust. i have to hit speed bumps at an anlge and have to watch what i go over very carefully!!!

Well Ive been talking with him about them, he responded this:
I found an 'alternate' route in my apt complex to get to my apt without hitting a speed bump anymore... horray for that. So, I know it might sit a little too low with the 1.8 drop, and the 3" exhaust, but I think I could make it work... He said hell hold them for me. Do you guys say I should get these, or just forget it? I just want your honest opinions, do you think it will be too low to live with, and Ill have to do too much avoiding of bumps, or hurt the underbody?
I have no idea on the treatment, but I know that springs generally don't wear out and the fact that the car was very low to the ground and the underbody was in good shape I would assume no "off-roading"

springs do wear out (they will sag after a while especially if left sitting with the weight of the car on them) I don't like lowering any car, lowering is for trucks,(I will accept a lowered 40 merc, but that's a whole different story)

Well since Arch seems to be the party pooper here, I will tell you that the only thing I see that might make things a little different is that his springs were out of a Z, and yours is only a V6. There are usually differenct part numbers for the V6 and V8 because of the weight difference.
But either way for $75 with the struts isn't bad at all. Springs do wear out, after a very long time and if he lowered a CAMARO with them I doubt he went off roading in it. Most people with lowered cars treat them a little better since they have to be careful where they drive.
Worst case for you is that you put them in and your car rides like crap becuase of the weight difference. So you take them out and sell them. I'm pretty sure you can get your money back out of them even w/o the struts on them.

Thanks Force... That helps me out a little. Ive never done any springs or anything besides brakes, so how hard is this to do for a n00b? Just wondering how hard it would be if I decided to get them, didnt like them, and want to take them back out.
No I didnt buy them, Im still trying to make up my mind... Im leaning more towards no, but sometimes I lean the other way....
Why shouldnt I? please, everyone state their opinions.
