Hi, i just bought my 94 camaro Z28 3 months ago. I was wondering if there's any problem in taking it to a motor wash (over and under) 'cause there's a mess under the hood, but i was hesitating. The reason is that i did the same thing with my old car and some computer stuff damaged because of the water. I'm still learning some things about camaros and i know there's an optipark distributor or some like that, which is expensive (among other parts that can be damaged). Could you help me out or give some suggestions?????

if you're going to wash the engine make sure you leave it running,if at all possible i recommend having a friend keeping their foot on the throttle ,just enough to keep the r.p.ms up,so the engine does'nt have a chance to stall out

not to say ur wrong LT1NOS5150 but i always thought that u didnt want ur engine on and that u didnt even want it hot because if u dump cold water on hot metal its called thermal stress and it can crack if u were going to wash ur engine i would wait for ur engine to cool or do it before u drive it if possible it should be fine because ur electronics should be sealed from water, plus the only way ur engine would stall with water is if it was pulled in through the engine and u probably wouldnt even be able to get that much water in the intake with a hose unless u were trying really hard to, JMO

i just use some simple green. spray everything thats dirty. wipe it off. maybe hose it off. yea just takes time

just do it by hand... most likely a pressure washer isnt going to take grease like that off well anyway. get some simple green, and just do it by hand to keep it safe.

The thing here is that the engine is really a mess, it has tons of grease and oil under it, but just a normal condition above, is there any problem with the optispark distributor, relays or something else? I really don't know what to do, but i want it clean. Thankx!

i used a product called Greasled Ligthening, Simple Green is supposed to be good too. any grease remover will work. just spray it on the area you want clean and go to town with a toothbrush and a spray bottle of water to rinse it off. i did mine all by hand which took about 4 hours but it was worth it IMO. i wouldnt touch the bay with a hose or anything that just sprays wildly like that. the optispark is a when it comes to water and will screw you over if you get it wet.lol

Use Armor All (seriously) i did this to my car after i have an antifreeze leak and a yellow engine bay and it turned out great. Go drive you car around the block a couple time and get it HOT (yes hot) and then when you get home take some original armor all in a spray bottle and soak any place you want cleaned. Close the hood and leave it overnight, in the morning it should look great and spotless you MIGHT need a rag on some places. works great for me and i havent had any engine problems from it either. sorry about the long *** post

dont heasitate to use a pressure washer. i do it on new and old cars/trucks all the time and have only ran into a problem once (got the distributor cap wet and wouldnt start...simple air gun fixed that)

i say go for it.

if you get the opti wet at all, it will be toast.

im just saying you will kick yourself in the ***** when the car runs like crap and you have to take off the entire front end of the motor and spend 300+ when you coulda been a little more careful and taken your time.
