Sup. New member, need some help

Hey, just got my red 97 rs a few days ago. Figured this would be the place to go for help.

Nothing wrong with the car as it is, but I can't keep myself from modding it so heres the list of stuff that I need some help with:

Turbo or Supercharger
Guages
Perhaps a conversion from auto to manual

As for the "turbo or supercharger", it seems that turbos add more power, but too much power means replacing axles, flywheels, headers, all that whatnot. I'd rather have a turbo, but if it costs significantly more than a supercharger it won't be worth it. So I was wondering of any of you have a supercharger or turbo installed, and what you had to go through to get it up and running (cost, other parts, etc).

And about the guages, we all know the V6 camaros can kick way more *** than 125mph, chevy didn't unfortunately. Would It be a viable solution to get a different analog speedometer to go with the cluster (i.e. aftermarket, a cluster from a Z-28...), or just to get an aftermarket digital guage and mount it somewhere.

The conversion from auto to manual isn't as high on the list as the other two because it doesn't matter a whole lot. I would just like to know whether I could get a 6 speed tranny (or 5 speed) from another camaro (same gen) and a new flywheel, pop em in and go (or with minor modification).

I guess that covers it for now. Any help here is greatly appreciated btw.

cluster won't do any good teh car won't go that fast (gm has a program in the pcm to shut down at I think 110) supercharger is the cheapest route since you don't need to fabricate a new exhaust and what not, you could get a trans from another car as well as brake pedal and do some fabbing to get a weaker trans (if you go 6 speed) and possibly a slower car (every time you press the clutch the guy with the auto pulls away)

About the cluster issue, I am definently going to get rid of the speed restriction. So considering that what are my options?

If one would have to fab their own exhaust for the turbo, wouldn't there at least be one person selling exhausts for the turbos?

And it looks like auto is the way to go.

And ty for the help.

WELCOME TO
if you keep the stock cluster, getting some nuimage gauges would be a nice addition, I have the black faced flame gauges, personally my favorite.

well about the speedo, you can swap the cluster with a 150 Z28 speedo, but you'd need to get the thing recalibrated.

the turbo, http://www.force-fed-fabrications.com/index2.htm. tiago can hook you up for cheaper than a supercharger.

but i wouldnt recommend too much modding. just sell your car and get a Z and already have more horsepower than you would after you dump 10 grand into your six. and dont say you cant afford insurance...if you can afford modding your six, you can easily afford insurance. i finally saw the light...wont you?

you and your anti-V6 propaganda....Actually there is a differences in being able to mod your v6 and being able to afford the insurance on a v8. You may have to save up for years to do a mod, but you can't save up for years to pay your insurance if its too much. think about it.

you guys overestimate it. when jimmy got his 94 Z vert for a day his insurance went down a few bucks (i think he had multiple car discount or some chit)

right now mine is 246 per month, if i traded my 6 for a Z it would be 320.
