What is the difference in a T-5 in a 6 cylinder and a V-8 it is just the imput shaft is 10 spline instead of 23or 24 I forget which it is?? Also is the bellhousing the same??

bell housing should be different, and the input shaft is weaker (hence fewer splines) the gearing should also be different since a v6 makes power at a different rpm than an 8

im pretty sure the 8ers T-5 is 26 spline btw only reason i dont wanna say 26 is cuz the axles have the same amount of splines on em :banghead: then they moved up to 28 spline axles at the end of 89...

I just picked up a 89 T-5 I am going to rebuild it and put it in my car. my friend with the lightening knows all about this trans becasue his sons mustang had one and he broke it like 3 times in one month so he told me he would help so I just need to know what I need to get for the trasn to make it a V-8 I am pretty sure it is WC being a 1989 I need to get the numbers off but I have to clean the plate off to see them so maybe tomarrow morning I wil get a chance to. it does have a 10 spline input I was looking for a 26 spline. are they interchangeable with the gear is the trans now?? or will I need a whole new gear set?? I will get the numbers up ASAP. it was cheap I couldnt pass it up $65 bucks!

I think I am going to get this gear set for my trans check it out tell me what you think!

Gear set
I am looking at the 2.95 close ratio set $449

Don't say t-5 are junk I am trying to get some ideas on how to make it a little stronger so I it will hold up to my 305 with a few bolt ons it shouldnt be a big deal!

even with the beefing up it can only handle 300 lb ft of torque (according to that site) so it should be ok with the 305 but I would not try any burnouts
