T-56 Swap

I don't have a car a the moment but i am planning on buying a third gen, and dropping in a built 383 in. I know that the T5 wont hold up for very long, and i was wondering if anybody knows some places where you can buy the things to do the swap. Thanx

69z-28 02-24-2005 02:51 PM

swap meet.lol

archemedes 02-24-2005 08:32 PM

many junk yards have them

Dna383 03-01-2005 09:56 PM

Yeah idk i heard there are some places where you can get the complete trans to drop right in (shifter, crossmember, etc.) ill find something

archemedes 03-01-2005 09:59 PM

haven't seen anything myself, but to buy a kit will be expensive and doing the crossmember is extremely easy all the parts would be on a junkyard car

Dna383 03-03-2005 10:03 AM

alfight that's prolly what ill do, thanks

Camarocam 03-03-2005 12:16 PM

Here is a tech page T-56 swap

and here is a F-body site that has all kinds of parts for the swap. they have the motor mounts and engine mounts for LS1-LT1 and T-56.

F-body parts

Thanks camarocam thats good info
Anybody ever used or heard of Billy Graham's Camaro/firebid salvage

69z-28 03-04-2005 02:48 PM

nope, i showed them and it was new to them, but like eveyrone thought, they dont have much listed or much info.gonna have to call them up and ask prolly

Camarocam 03-14-2005 03:58 PM

Good luck on it keep updated I want to do it to my 84 but I am only 17 with a part-time job!!

Dna383 03-16-2005 09:36 AM

haha, yeah im only 16, i found a place where i can bould up a t5 into a bad *** tranny. it makes it clutch asisted, so when shifting you only need to let of the gas and slam the gear, no clutch needed. it can handle 600 hp, where the T-56 can only hold like 450, and its cheaper and easier. i'll find the link

Camarocam 03-16-2005 11:47 AM

Thats cool post the link I would like to take a look

niceroc 03-17-2005 06:06 PM

JesasaurusRex 03-20-2005 01:10 PM

i know Spohn makes a T-56 direct replacement for the T-5. Like 2Gs tho wish i had the cash. Oh well sometime down the road.

niceroc 03-20-2005 03:47 PM

There ya go i didnt even really research it yet (hopefully wont have to for a while) knock on wood

Dna383 03-20-2005 09:30 PM

haha really, i think it is just better to rebuild the t5 tho. A t-56 is a ton of money, and it still isnt as strong as you could make a t5. As you can see i have completely changed my mind, but there is a kit on that site that will make a t5 hold 600hp for a little over a grand and its easier to install than a t-56

Camarocam 03-21-2005 12:01 AM

I think I am going to try and find a T-5 and rebuild it a little stonger than stock and put it in when I put my 350 in cause I really want a manual!!!

archemedes 03-21-2005 12:49 AM

if you want to add a 6th just use a gear vendors overdrive, stronger than the t56 plus you get 5 od speeds

Dna383 03-21-2005 09:26 AM

niceroc 03-21-2005 09:27 PM

JesasaurusRex 03-22-2005 02:37 AM

So what does the * mean in this quote? "True Bolt-in synchronized replacement gearsets capable of handling up to 600 streetable * horsepower"

Dna383 03-22-2005 09:17 AM

thats a good question, im still waiting for a reply from the company, because i sent an email

Dna383 03-22-2005 09:52 AM

im not sure, but dog rings make it a clutchless or clutch assisted transmission, right? this is my main question for the company, call me stupid, but i cant find information about it and i don't know

archemedes 03-22-2005 10:27 PM

engine hp maybe?

Dna383 03-22-2005 10:58 PM

maybe?

JesasaurusRex 03-23-2005 01:17 AM

Well that "maybe" is enough of a factor for me not to buy it before they clear that up.

Dna383 03-23-2005 09:19 AM

yeah, i know, im waiting for a reply, i hink i gonna call them cause there email ain't working so good, but i also need to get a car first, lol

Dna383 03-25-2005 04:46 PM

not 100% sure, but i think the * means it depends on other things like clutch and tires here

"G-Force T-5 kit will handle roughly 600 hp or 500 ft-lb. or torque in a 3300 lb. vehicle running drag radials at the track with a moderate clutch upgrade. Obviously this is just a rough estimate regarding the power and torque handling capability, but it should give some idea as to what the G-Force T-5 kit will handle in your particular application. "

Dna383 03-25-2005 04:54 PM

http://www.g-forcetransmissions.com/t5_popup_gears.asp

I bet those are just a little bit stronger, haha
