Tire Decision

After an upset against a C5 today I realized that i shoulda won, i had the advantage of a stick shift, i shoulda wasted him off the line.

i plan on getting ZR1s with sumitomos, but i was only going to get them cuz theyre decent street tires. but i love racing off red lights so im pretty much trashing the idea of the sumitomos. i wanna be able to launch hard. i'll probably get LCAs and do some rear end work, but i'll need good tires.

i wanted to do 11 in the rear, but now im thinking of going with nitto drag radials. would it be a better idea to go with a 275 drag radial or stay with the 315 and go drag radial with that?

i think drag radial 11's would be sweet but honestly i don't know what would help you or anything sorry caleb

If this car is a daily driver, for safteys' sake please dont get street drags. Just driving mine home from the track on street drags one night in the rain scared me. If you're going to do it on a daily driver, have one set daily, and one set for the track. Im voting sumitomos.

well thats why i chose nittos. ive heard good things about their DRs and wet traction. but because of that factor, my other plan was 315 sumis for the street and keep a pair of stockers and get 255/50/16 slicks for the track.

I'd recommend the last part there. A set of streets and a set of drags.

I mean think about it. You're going to get maybe 5,000 miles out of a set of drags, no wet traction AT ALL, no possibility of rotation, so you're going to eat up you're front tires....

I've had the same dilema, so I know how tempting it is.

k well next question is 275 or 315. the only thing making that decision hard is that i wanna lower it.

i'd like 315s, but i also want the lowest possible drop. anyone know if that will work? i kinda doubt it.

nittos good in rain? hah..

.. oh, and LS1 > you. :nana:

i didnt race a C5. im not that stupid. we got next to eachother at a red light and i gave a thumbs up and he just waived me off like an *******. he deserved to get wasted, and i was on the inside curve, but i didnt wanna risk it. it woulda been like FATF when he wastes the ******* in the ferrari.

but whatever, keep talkin paar. keep talkin while you run you lil 200 hp camaro.

I read through your whole post for that last line I was waiting for... Typical response from you

And my reponse: Maybe one day those 285 horses will beat a 400 horse goat, or c5.

NoRiceInside 05-07-2007 03:44 AM

its a typical response from me because you gave your typical response. always trash talking people better than you. buts its cool, cuz YOU will never live up to me. YOU got 200 horses.

lol... ooooooh http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/9309/bowroflwh7.gif

As per the discussion, I think you need more options for tires. For a dd, I wouldnt get DRs.

NoRiceInside 05-07-2007 03:52 AM

well i dont go to the track often, so i want something that will hook on the street when i drop my clutch from more than idle. lol.

i decided on sumis cuz theyre cheap and decent for a DD. slicks or DRs im not serious on, i was just throwing it out there. i guess theres always bfgoodrich KDs or goodyear GS D3s, but fck thats a lotta money. i gotta lotta stuff to take care of. i cant be waiting 2 months to save up for tires :banghead:

CHINGON 05-07-2007 04:15 AM

I know bfg drag radials are good tires but Nitto are nice too.
I have 315 Nitto NT 555R Drag Radial and they are really good,
but I don’t have that much power to worry about tractions issues anyways :p

96camaro 05-07-2007 08:07 PM

I think 315's in a good street tire would be your best bet.

NoRiceInside 05-07-2007 08:09 PM

problem is in 315 it goes sumitomo: $99 then next step up is GS D3: $249
