Title problems.

So i purchased my car back in june off of ebay. The only problem is, they guy that sold it to me after saying he would have a title for me didn't have one, and i could only get a hold of him eveyronce in a while untill he just stopped answering my calls. But the last time i talked to him he told me he couldn't get the title and i don't know what he had been through, blah blah blah.

So i call the california department of motor vechicles, and ask them if the cars been stolen or if there is a lein on the car, they say no. the person who had my car before the guy that sold it apparently still has the title, But he released liability of the car.

I got paper work from the DMV from cali, and sent it out about a month ago and haven't recieved anything back from them, i had to request the information of the first owner, and title transfer and bill of sale, but like i said ive got nothing back yet. Should i start to worry??? anyone live in cali that has had this same sort of problem??? the DMV around chico take forever???

I am going to call them tomorrow and see whats going on, i doubt they will know what im talking about, but i really need this title to get it registered, im way past the 15 days to get it registered....heh.

Also if i don't get it by the time the tags expire which is january, if i get pulled over, its a $330 ticket.

A very loud car, with expired tags and california plates, thats a ticket waiting to happen.

Any advice???

that's why you never buy a car without title, call and pester tehm make sure things got doen, it's common for states to lose stuff, the other thing that can happen is the original owner can decide he wants the car back, and say I never signed anything and still have the title, then legaly it is his car and you lose every dime you spent on it

i talked to the california DMV and had them run the plates, and legally the car is mine its just not registered to me, because he signed the liability waiver, so he can try, but i think the state of california will tell him to get a life. But yeah, i really need to call them and see whats going on.

see in most states there is no such thing as a liability waiver that's called the title GA was real fun since they don't issue titles for cars over 20 years old

One of my friends had a similar situation. Like 2 years after he bought it, his insurance company told him that the car was stolen, and he had no title to show it was his, or proof of sale to show what he paid for it.

Yeah so i called the Cali DMV today and they have no record of me requesting information, so i have to order this form again, and fill everything out again. Im less than thrilled. i just hope this f******g works this time, because the tags expire next month.
