trans help/suggestions

hello everyone! im really excited lol b/c the one trans i got for free is a th-400. I plan on rebuilding it and beefing it up a little bit and swapping it into my car. I need suggestions on what torque converter to get. basically just what is a good stall speed for a weekend cruiser that wants to have a little fun? 2000? 1800? where is a good place to get a rebuild kit? any suggestions about how i should go about doing this are appreciated also. What will i need to buy in order to swap it into my car? i have the driveshaft covered and possibly the trans crossmember...what else do i need? TIA

converter check with one of the manufacturers, the list for choosing one is as long as the list for a cam (last time I did one there were 12 questions) is it a chevy bolt pattern or olds? chevy is completely different than the rest of the gm ones. rebuild kit tci or hughs both make good ones, avoid the b&m (there is a reason they cost about half the other brands)

oh yeah i gotta check... i think it is an olds. i decided against it b/c i talked to a lot of people about it and they said its not worth it and i would probably lose power b/c the trans has so much rotating mass. oh well. thanks anyways steve

too much rotating mass, it has one less gear than you have now, it weighs about the same as a 700r4, but the big thing is it's a 3 speed

I would say yes unless you plan on drag racing a bunch (in which case get a hard top)
