I have been wanting to flush my tranny for some time. Im thinking about doing it myself, just dropping the pan and changing out the fluid and seal. Is this all I should generally be looking at, or is there more to it?

If you guys have any step by step processes that would be great... otherwise Im going to take the way out and take it somewhere and fork out the money I really would like to avoid paying.

Just dont the pan. Its pretty easy job. Buy the filter kit which comes with the filter and the gasket/seal for the pan. The kits only like 10 bucks or so. Then just get yourself some Dextron III and your good to go. There isnt much to look for while changing it unless you find some metal chips and other **** that obviously is not supose to be in there.

So Im assuming this kit would be at most part stores? It is just dropping the pan and changing out the fluid seal/gasket huh? Sounds pretty simple as long as I can get a lift.

Yes you could pick it up at most auto parts stores. Yes its a pretty easy task. You really dont need a lift unless you really want to go that way. Just jack it up and put it on jack stands you dont need to go that high to get to it.

you shouldn't need a life just up on ramps would work even. (if you can get on them) then yeah drop the pan change the filter put it back on fill it back up. pretty simple did it in the malibu not to hard at all

I use ramps and then jack up one end of the car, stick some jacks under it, so its on ramps and jacks, very easy to do under body work oil changes, brakes, ect...

yes I COULD do it with a jack... but I really dont want to balance a pan in my hands a foot off the ground... would be much easier while standing.

the pan with fluid weighs about 15 pounds, if you take out all but a couple bolts on one end and just loosen them it drains first (it is just as big a pita on a lift)

where do you get a lift from? i always hve to jack mine up then use jack stands

i just jack up the car...remove all but two bolts and let the pan drain at an angle for a bit. leaves minimal mess and not hard to do at all

i have been tlaking to a few people about this and they all said take it in for the flushing aspect of it so that it really does a thruo job at cleaning it. they usally use a machine to force it thru and it also will clean the torque coverter as well. then i was told you should change the filter and ****. my girlfirend took her camry in and they flushed it 3 times to get all the **** out of the tranny.

its really easy to do a pan. i do probly 5-10 a week. only takes me about 20 minutes to do one but thats at my work where we can stand under the car. i always start at the end of the pan closest to the back of the car and work my way to the front driver side bolt. that way most of the fluid is drained out by the time u have the bolts out. if im not mistaken your car should have a reusable gasket and all you have to do it clean it off. IMO the reusable ones are better to use than one that comes with a filter/gasket kit. just keep in mind that it doesn't replace all of the fluid. a flush however would replace all of the fluid but your filter wouldn't be changed if u brought it in to have a flush. if you have over 100k miles you shouldn't flush it either. i would just do it yourself and change the filter.

hm... the manual tells you to do it at 100k, so Id assume thats okay.

Im going to do mine over the winter.. One of the several maintence things I need to do.

yeah just do it yourself cost us about $30 for the malibu and i payed $125 to have it done to the camaro
