v6/catback exhaust question

I have just been thinking about this more and more lately... why is it that people talk about adding bullet mufflers to an exhaust... i just dont fully understand what they do... When people say somthing about running an exhaust with just cats or no cats, that you should add a bullet muffler, why is that? does it sound like *****/rice? or is just a backpressure issue? I want to get a 3" catback exhaust, is that going to sound or bad, and by that i mean raspy or deep... i know anything around the area of 3 grand rpms, youre gonna notice the sound differnce, but what how exactly does a catback function. is it cat then muffler? or just cats in place of the muffler? if so, wouldnt cats in place of a muffler just sound the same as an exhuast without a muffler? I just want some answers to learn

catback uses the stock cat, and is just the mufflers and pipe to them, the bullets will tone it down a bit.I am thinking of doing a chambered exhaust (like the original z/28 exhaust) on the gp it deepens the tone

by toning down, you mean its just too loud? or just sounds like crap?

and so a high flow cat would be a good idea?

on your car there is no difference between stock and high flow (many of the high flow don't flow as well as the factory part) it will quiet it a little (just enough to be legal) but it changes the overall sound, it's hard to describe the sound, but a chambered muffler like I want is basically a dimpled tube so yell into a steel pipe and you get a basic idea

thats correct a friend here has the same exhaust as me and he also has a cat and it sounds differnt then mine. It sounds better without the high flow cat on my setup.

I used a set of Pacesetter headers, and a full custom 3" catback, with no catalytic converter, all the way to a Flowmaster 80 series muffler, with dual 2.5" outlets, to black powdercoated Z28 OEM tips. Sounds excellent.

I'll have to get some exhaust clips.

Duals means there's a pipe that comes off each header and straight back. There would be no Ypipe. What FBodies have are dual exit exhaust, not dual exhaust.
