Question Weird grunting/grinding noise when I shift into drive

Ok if I'm standing still and I put my car into drive I hear this grinding/grunting noise when the car goes into gear and lurches (sp) foreward. The car will sometimes make this sound when I go into reverse but at a decreased volume. I'm guessing it is maybe a bad U-Joint?
