what would the best motor be for a 98 cav z24?
i know its a cav...... my bud picked it uf for 600 can. but the moter is so underpowered. what would give him the best performance. and relative costs.
possibly a sc or turbo moter if its feesable in a cav. |
Grab a 3.1l from an older RS or Z24. Good torque, easy to build up, and almost indestructable. Also pretty good on gas.

That will take a lot of cutting, welding and time.
Then to make it street legal afterwards, I dont think it will happen in someones garage. |
its not happining in a house garage but a workshop. i got friends that let me use thier shop at night. i got a new bodykit 4 400 shipoed its not bad this is going to be a long project for me. if i can il start to post some pics then tell me u dont like a cav. i think itl be the first rwd cav at least i havnt seen 1 yet.

Well start by getting measurements to see if any other cars rear subframes match up, otherwise an entirely custom job will take forever and a lot of cash.
At least by using another cars subframe you only need custom mounts/driveshaft/brake setup. |
so prettybmuch im going to be dropping the body on a new frame. i hope it works it would be a buzz to see when im done.
|
Unibody.....
|
You can't drop the body on a new frame when the cavalier is a unibody car. Unibody meaning the frame is built into the body. I once saw the RWD conversion done on an alero (a much better candidate then the cheapo cavalier). He used a LT1 engine and tranny from a 4th gen fbod and the rear axle from a s-10. No idea how he managed but it was a ton of work. Do yourself a favor and get a 1994 z24 and drop a 3400 or L69 in it. They look better then the 95 and up anyway.

The 3xxx series do fit into the cavi, the 3400 and 3800 s/c have been done. check out jbody.org and they can give way more details.
