Question Why is Hypertech so worried about battery drain?

For some reason Hypertech saids their can be no voltage drain on your car while you have the programmer connected. Problem is I have an alarm and I forgot how to disarm it. To keep the alarm from arming I can just leav my door open but then my dome lights are on. Is Hypertech just being over protective with this warning or does the programmer really drain that much juice from the battery?

it senses voltage and that can have a bearing on the final outcome

it not the scan tool that drains it, but it needs to have the right voltage to do its job and dome lights are a huge draw

There isn't a huge drain from the programmer-

The thing is that your computer needs above 10 volts usually to operate properly. If you are in the process of dumpin your computer's memory and changing everything around and in the middle of the process you lose voltage you can severly damage th computer to the point of no return.

So to reiterate- its not the drain of the programmer- it takes minimal voltage to operate- Hypertech just wants to make sure that something else won't drain the battery down during programming and destroy the computer-
