sounds like it, my real question is has the sun gear been upgraded that's the weak point in the 700

Sun gear, okay whatever that is, um i am not sure whats been done to the car i just bought it in may, and they had just put a 350 under the hood, had 20,000miles on it, i havent put more than 1500 miles on the car yet.. and it had a 305 before the New rebuilt 350, so it could be that the tranny is rated for a 305, and the car has 175,000 miles on it, but its in exc. Shape for its age!

the origianl 700 r4's used a very weak sun gear (it's the main gear basically) it broke very often even behind the v6, a failing pump can also cause strange things

yep, as arch said. But the 700r4 is a good transmission! Not to hard to rebuild as long as u take ure time and remember how everything came out you'll need a few specialty tools aswell. is it just in the 1 - 2 shift? the clutch packs could be weak aswell, my 4l60e went and I lost 1,2,3,4 and R only had OD i guess...1ce 1 part starts to go if not taken care of the rest will soon follow

i am going to Advance Auto tomarrow and then is there any special type of filter or fluid i should get that isnt Too expensive? But will Help with shifts?

Oh yea advance auto rebuilds trannys too i think...

standard fluid and filter works fine, teh special stuff hasn't impressed me too much (synthetic may help, but I haven't seen a difference)

Okay, thanks Alot Guys!!! I am really glad i can ask people who have a decent idea of whats going on and what to do! and not have to pay someone 30bucks to hook up a diagnostic computer to tell me it needs fluid filter change! that really helps me out! Thanks again!

the synthetic just lasts longer thats all and them Fixit's in a can are bogus... norml fluid and filter will be fine. when u change the filter look for metal shavings. Also, if the trans is new the fluid should be up 2 par

if ure trans is rebuild when they rebuilt it there should be all new fluiids in it already

Oh and i was thinking, how many quarts do i need? 4-5? 700r4 with OD

and a new filter if it was a reputable shop or anyone with knowledge them 2 things hsould be brand new

i think the spec is 4 or 4.5 but dont quote me on that
