Wiper motor!

My wipers will not go down after I turn them off. Talked with the local Chevy dealership and they said that the park position in the wiper motor is bad. I found a few on eBay cheap. I was just wondering if anyone has ever changed out theirs and how hard it was.

This is what just started happening to me yesterday. I own a 98 camaro. I just went to use them since the damn plows over salted the roads and all of a sudden they just decided to go back to the top. I had a feeling that the motor was starting to die. How much does the dealer want for a new motor?

The motor is easy to take out, it's only a couple of bolts under the cowl. I took mine off when I shaved the cowl. If anybody need the motor or the arms or everything, just hit me up with an offer. It's just laying around the garage, works great when taken off. No need to get raped by the dealership.

On what year camaro?? I took the one off my 1998 Camaro and it was a piece of cake, no problems at all. Pop the wiper cowl off and there it was, 2 bolts.

Thanks for the offer. I thought I would take a look at the motor and decided to try and remove the wiper arm from the driver's side but I can't even move it an inch. I even went out and bought a puller to remove it but the hood is in the way whether it is open or closed. Is there another way of taking a look by maybe removing the plastic cover?

I think you have to remove the wiper arms to get the plastic cowl off. What kind of hood do you have?? You should be able to get them off with the hood open, working throught the engine bay. Then close the hood and take them off towards the windshield. Not 100% sure though. When I did mine, te hood was completely off.

exactly, it takes about 30 minutes to do the whole thing if you are just slightly mechanically inclined

Well I finally had the time and the weather warmed up enough for me to be able to work on pulling out the wiper motor. I managed to get one from a 96 Z28 that was in the junk yard. I only paid 47$ for the motor with the arm assembly. I replaced it all in a few hours since I had to stop every while to warm up. What really bugged me was that I went through all that work to find out the motor would stop the wiper arms at the top for when I used the delay and if I used the washer they would slam at the bottom of the windshield. The next day I returned the motor and replaced it with one from a 94 Z28 and I tested it before I put it in. It worked fine for a few minutes and now it's doing the same thing as the last one. :banghead: I've been so frustrated with this problem since this all started and I have no other ideas what to do now since I tried cleaning the connectors and pushed on the wires to make sure they are seated inside the assembly. I even went to the dealer to try to figure it out and now I find out it is a common problem for these cars that use the motors
95 - 97 Cavalier and Sunfire
93 - 02 Camaro and Firebird
97 - 04 Corvette
what really has me upset is that this problem isn't even covered under the warranty which I still have.
